Someone please enlighten me. I'm not really understanding what has transpired. Allow me to go through this, step by step, then fill me in.

1. One fellow met another fellow at a herf.

2. One appears to be significantly older than the other.

3. The older person sent the younger person, as a gift, a quantity of cigars. This was not an agreed upon exchange or trade; simply a gift from one man to another.

4. The recipient didn't like the gift and complained, in print in the CBid Forum.

Am I close to understanding what happened? From the first post in this thread it appears that the person thought to have sent the gift, may not have been the giver...but I could be reading that wrong.

Conclusion: As a receiver of a gift, of any kind, one must be gracious. No one owes you a gift. Gifts are given in the spirit of friendship. The friendship is the gift; the box's contents are just a tag-a-long.

Steve

Read Rickamavens post number 90 on "Do Rams Hibernate", all weaponry and insults have ceased due to lack of interest and a cease and desist on various parties involved!

I have pulled out of the fray and will not enter it again! I believe that is SteveS and Slimboli's stance as well.

I got lost somewhere in the area where Rick wrote about a woman smelling like tuna in calm waters.

this is a seperate fray, Charlie ... unrelated to the hibernation fiasco ... like Steve*R, I'm a bit puzzled by the background on this one and with a couple of minor differences, my inferences are pretty much like his ...

And that also puzzles me, because I met Myash and his wife at CigarFest and found them to be extremely pleasant, sincere folks ... I met Smashed at CFest too and found him to be an unusually nice young guy ...

So, I'm confused by this thread ... I don't doubt the sincerety of myash, but something doesn't quite meet the eye, and I'm bothered by the apparent missing links ...

This was settled a while ago, and yet you keep pulling it up. Why? Why do we need to revisit this? I am going to copy and paste over my reply when this was dragged up in the trades forum as well (where the original altercation took place):

I'm curious to know why this was dragged up again. It's over and done with, so what's the point in bringing this up? what's the point in bringing up half the threads we want to die? There is nothing else to contribute. One person was upset, bought it to the public, the public jumped on him (sans one or two people), he hasn't posted since and nobody has made mention of it since. How about we all just drop it, and get back to the fun of the forums? To me, this is not fun.

This is to everyone right here and right now. The ram thing is over. The smashed thing is over. Bob, I'm sorry this crap get brought up as people are giving you condolences on the loss of your father. You people should be ashamed of yourselves. Steve*R asks to be enlightened after the kid's uncle is mourning his father, and we're sending condolences.

Does everyone thrive on beating each other up now? did we all forget why we all came to these forums in the first place? Why we all signed up? I sure as hell did not sign up to bash on other people. I signed up to discuss cigars, to post nice pictures, to being trading, to interact with other POTL.......not to find people in this world to hate. So everyone...JUST STOP!

Unfortunately ... no one knows it's over.

Why dosen't myash put an end to it ... it seems to a lot of us that it hasn't been resolved, so people are responding to it.

I'm also sorry that there are a few here that have lost their fathers ... but this was probably not the best thread to bring it up on.

Regardless of where the passing of his father was brought up, you don't start this stuff up again when that is the point of subject. That i just wrong and inconsiderate of one's feelings.

Do you show up to a wake or funeral and brag about your life? No you do not. The same should be respected here. The thread was dead for nine days, and then it came back only because it was a way for Bob to get back into posting after being away a bit. Then, the subject completely changed until people had to reflect on where the post began. Before the thread died, Jimmy was being reasonable and asking smashed to come back to the boards and settle it. To me, that looks like the end of the conflict. Jimmy wanted to settle everything peacefully, and not drag it on.

Slim, don't work against me here please. Last night one conflict ended, and everyone is moving on. let's work together to move on from this one as well. Thank you.

Looks like this to me. The one guy asking for everyone to stop posting has more posts on this thread than anyone else LOL!!

Is this one of those 'do as I say, not as I do' kinda things? LOL!!

Tranny-

I decided to look back at my posts on this thread.

First -

Saying I normally correspond to smashed a lot, have not heard from him in a bit but hope to.

Second-

Saying it was a shame to not have herfed with Bob this past weekend, and it was great meeting new people.

Third-

Letting Bob know he had an e-mail sending my condolences on his father passing.

Fourth & Fifth-

Now asking for the original topic in question to end.

Hmmm Tranny...sorry that three-fifths of my posts were no related to ending the topic. Oh darn. Tranny, I'm just asking for peace. Not asking for any other comments on it. Maybe some support, but nothing wise.

Sfraun04 --- no offense ... but you've really got to chill.

This is a freakin' online community for crimminy sake viewed by hundreds, if not thousands of people ... things are going to bounce around a bit.

Why are you getting so worked up over this?

Nevermind ... we posted almost the same time.

One thing that I know from personal experience over many years ... it's not going to stop ...

... just because you tell people to stop it.

I know that nobody is going to listen to me, but I figure that if no one asks for it to stop then will it? Never hurts to try.

Sfraun04: Regretfully, I think you're making some false assumptions. The first is that everyone reads every thread in each of CBid's forums. As I was scanning this forum today, I saw this thread for the first time. I had no idea what precipitated this soap opera.

The second false assumption is that because you or anyone doesn't like the course of a particular thread, it should be immediately halted. Internet BBSs just don't work that way. People come and go, read a few posts and comment. Instructing them to quit posting because you don't like the course of the thread will only make it continue.

The third and most salient point is that this is the internet; not real life. The vast majority of what you read on these boards is fiction or a severely embellished figment of reality. When real life touches a thread, few people assume that it's a reality.

Wow Steve*R ... thanks for letting me know that this is the internet, and not real life ... and that the vast majority of what you read on these boards is fiction or a severely embellished figment of reality.

I guess you aren't 'real', and what you say isn't real ... so I guess now I'll take your posts as one big embellishment of the truth ... eh?

😉
