This question is any of us that have over-bid (OB) on cigarbid or any other vendor either due to: 1)compulsion 2)stupidity 3)misunderstanding 4)absolute need or 5) all of the above.

OK. My confession is that I clearly overpaid for a humidor (on another site) when I first started out smoking cigars in '98. I've paid for some Naturals close to retail.

How about you?

So, "X", what was your guilty pleasure that you over-bid for on cigarbid?

I just closed tonight on a 5-pack of Natural Elixir 5-50s. About $1/cigar more then I would have liked to have paid - but do I LIKE these smokes! Also paid a fair price on some Cuesta Rey Pyramids #9s. Not a great deal, but a fair price. Close-but no cigar in the overbidding tonight.

What people here fail to realize is that there WILL be more of the same stuff up for bid in a few days. Most of the newbies DON'T do thier homework and you can find most of the premium brands cheeper on other sites. Most of the people think local retail when bidding, when they should be thinking wholesale.

I can see paying a couple bucks more then you should,
if say you only have a five pack closing at the end of the week and you want to offset a little bit of the shipping, besides I think cigars travel better in larger groups. :0)

I have PROBABLY overbid...
My problem is I bid from the heart too often without doing the research I should do...
I figure if it is worth it to me, then it isn't so bad.
But then again, I often bid on some of the lower stuff, just to try and see... I have nothing against trying new smokes for the fish (you know... The Halubut {say it slowly}) (Oh I crack me up!).
Anyway... I just wish someone worse than me would follow up just before closing...
I am going BROKE!

I try to keep my CC maxed with crack/meth purchases. That way I don't bid too much...

If I already have won serveral bids and I have a day or two before they ship to me, I will bid $3.5 a stick for padron 3000's. Not really overbidding, but more than I usually like to pay.

I too tend to bulk up a little toward Thursday in order to save on shipping ... pay a little more than I should sometimes? ... sure ... but to me, Over-bidding is the guy who pays FAR more than he should ... (such as $10 for an item I could buy at a store down the street for $6, or $68 for a box of cigars that could've been bought anytime for $59.95 on CI) ... I don't know whether they're unaware or just get caught up in a competition, seeking the "thrill of victory" ... I lose bids all the time to people who're willing to pay a little more than I am for a certain item at a certain time and win others on the same basis in reverse ... for the good of my CC, I just need to lose a few MORE ... lol

i agree with everyone, paying a little more than you want is'nt to bad. it may be worth it for a sample so then if you want, you can buy at a real price if you want. as to overbidding, just look at ebay.

I guess I will be the one person on this board who will not overpay! They will be there again, and again and I have my max that I am willing to pay, because I can always order from Cigars International or another place and find great deals on really great cigars! Just do the homework and set a limit and stick to it! Charlie

What kills me is the person who thinks they are getting a deal on one 5 pack. Sure bidding $5 on say a 5 pack of 5 vegas is a good deal, but when you look at the $3.95 in shipping, you've paid $8.95 for it. I guess it is just the bean counter in me, but I look at the total.

well, the shipping charges only apply that way if you have things shipped daily ... the reason I went to once a week shipments was to aggregate the shipping costs ... still, while your point is well-taken, buying a 5-pack is a little like shopping at 7-11 ... there's a convenience factor that one pays a little more for ...

Like a few mentioned earlier; many of these items show up over and over again. Took me some patience but I scored a box of Bolivar Fuerte Delmonicos for $70 (75 with shipping). I have overbid when I first started on CI because I flat out wanted those cigars! Be a little patient and only bid what you truly feel is a great buy; you'll eventually get 'em...now to explain those credit card charges to the "warden"...

CL: absolutely worth it. Great everyday smoke for $3/stick. I'm going to let them sit for about 6 months first...they really take to aging...I mean, no, no; don't ever buy any Bolivar Fuertes...dog rockets all of 'em.

JD, I was actually referring to X's Partagas 150's. I'm guessing he paid about $100 for a 5-pack. Hey, I agree with you 100% on the Bolivar Fuertes. I got a box of the Cuban Coronas recently. Oh man are those tasty! Uh, I mean tasty as in "tasty as a dog terd". Nobody should bother bidding on these dog biscuits. Hey JD, have you yet tried the new Boli Fuerte maduros?
