I currently work as a Corrections Officer and did serve as a County Deputy about 10 years ago.

What is it that you wanted to ask ? (if I qualify).

I suppose being "in the community" of law enforcement could mean that one served jail time. LOL

While I am not in law enforcement, I have a son and two good friends who are ... the law, of course, varies somewhat from state to state and while none of them are in TX, they might be able to offer you information that would be relevant to TX ... send me an e-mail if you like, outlining what you'd like to know ...

You have the right to remain silent...

I suggest pleading the 5th and speaking with an attorney...

Is there an attorney in the house?

Now Rick, nothing controversial...Two questions actually..I had the opportunity to train with Houston PDs SWAT team, and got flashed with a 'practice flashbang' (I'd hate to see what the real ones do to you)...My question is, are these available to civilians (the practice ones)...Other question was about is about pistol ownership...I was told by a friend, that a closing manager of a store, I am allowed to carry a handgun without a concealed liscence...That doesn't sound right to me..

Where would you not look for a body.

Question 1. That depends on your view of the "right to bear arms" Some of my friends feel that you should have the right to own ANY weapon the government owns. How else can you rise up against an unwanted government if you don't have the same weapons as they do. Go to a gun show and if you can buy one there it is legal to own. But carrying it would depend on the officer that sees you. (You are not supposed to carry anything that can be deemed as a deadly weapon. A baseball bat in your car can get you arrested if they want you.)
Question 2. You need to take a course and get a permit to carry a consealed handgun. Legally you can carry your guns in your hand in any place that does not have a sign up stating otherwise. But, it is not wise to do this.(You can also own any carry a butcher knife. But carry it into your local post office and see what happens..) You can have a gun in your store without the permit but you should take the course to prevent problems with lawyers if you should shoot a robber. I will take my .44 in my glovebox on our vacation and leave the ammo in the trunk. This is legal.
Things have changed over the years. When I was 14 I walked into K-mart with my rifle so I could make sure I bought the right ammo. No one gave me a second look. Many of my fellow high schoolers had rifles on the rifle rack of their pick-ups while they were at school.
I have 2 pistols and 2 rifles. If you teach your kids to respect the guns they are great. But, those darn neighbor kids can snoop around and find one. Use the trigger locks. HA HA aint Texas wonderful. Some of you aint never seen a real gun. (shouldnt this be on the political board or sumthin?)

I re read your second part. I thought the store was yours. If you do not own the store you had better get a permit. The course is cheap and you are more credible if a situation arrises. The system may let you get away with a slap on the wrist if you shoot someone but, the criminals lawyer may sue you for reckless use of a deadly weapon. (They will claim that the robber was a customer that just wanted to get some formula for his baby but the store was closing.)

Bullwinkle you wrote:

Answer: No, not at least the ones available to LEO's and SWAT elements. The cyclinder that you saw (I'm assuming it was black) is actually the case for what is inside (the charge). The charges, both practice and actual service charge of the DDD(Diversionary Distraction Device) along with the body are to be registered with the ATF as a class explosive and therefore accountable inventory. And as one who has trained with the standard issue DDD, the real ones are no ladyfingers. They will blind and disorient even those who "expect" them when they explode.

"the other question was about is about pistol ownership...I was told by a friend, that a closing manager of a store, I am allowed to carry a handgun without a concealed liscence...That doesn't sound right to me."

Answer: Depending on your State laws: However, most States except DC (is that a State anyway?) allow for private carry of legally owned sidearms while on your premises. More than likely the stipulation being that it is holstered or worn in full view. Again, CHECK WITH LOCAL LAW ENFORCEMENT FIRST. Concealed carry laws are for outside of your domicile or business. At least for now, many the law abiding may still protect their loved ones and their lives (lets hope it stays that way).

Good luck.

FFinch is correct, atleast in Virginia. May I also emphasize, CHECK YOUR STATE LAWS/CODES in reference to wearing a handgun at work. As far as the distraction devices are concered, the ATF closely monitors and inventories these munitions. Each spoon has a serial number on it, that when used must be submitted quarterly to the ATF. I know as a team leader of my organizations S.R.T. that it can be a giant pain in the a$$ when one of these spent spoons come up missing.

FFinch is on the money, but obviously state laws vary regarding carrying firearms at your business

Thanks for the info guys..I don't think I'd ever want to be on the recieving end of a full blown DDD..The ones they were using looked much like the real deal (as far as I could tell anyways), and they packed a helluva punch for 'practice' munitions...LOL...

Uh, there's not a SINGLE mention of cigar related material in these posts...where the **** is Slimboli?

But, I have a cigar related question to put y'all back on track before the evil post police do...could you light the practice flash bang WITH a cigar or is it something that you pull the pin out of? Just wondering...feel free to ignore me...

Another non-cigar related question in the same vein as above... I just moved to California and I brought my handgun with me, in Colorado you don't need to register guns but I am unsure of California laws. Does anyone know what I need to do? Thanks, Chris
