A few weekends ago I went to my friends bbq, and offered a cigar to his father in-law. He took that Fuente Hemingway and licked it up and down like a lollipop, and I nearly threw up and I couldn't even bring myself to smoke a cigar while there. My father in-law in California also last time I was there, when starting our traditional all night poker match, started to lick his cigar wrapper. This time I just told him flat out not to do that in my presence. It is really a pet peeve of mine I guess, to see some guy's big ugly tounge slobber over a cigar wrapper.

Maybe they are use to smoking White Owls left in their glove box in 120 degree heat for 4 weeks? ;o)

I've heard this licking trick is a way to revive a dead cigar in a hurry, but I have to agree with you, it is gross! -- These are the kinds of guys that you don't waste anything but your 75 cent or less sticks on!! LOL!

he should have given you back the cigar and told you to shove it. how dare you give someone a present and than resent they way he uses it.
if you are a v clipper, and he used a bullet, you would have been upset.

i believe you are a cigar snob

Rik, if he wants to lick his cigar is it too much to ask to do it out of my presence? Do you fart in front of everyone? I can put up with just about anything, especially after years of changing diapers with the green goop, but for some reason the sight of someone licking their cigar in front of me repulses me, it's as I said a pet peeve. I don't care if my wife leaves the tootpaste lid off, I don't care if she uses my brush, I don't care about a lot of behaviors that typically may bother someone, but this behavior bothers me, it actually makes me feel sick to my stomach. I never thought of myself as a snob, in fact when I smoke around others I intentionally downplay what I do know about cigars and my opinions, unless specifically solicited as I've been around people who give me a cigar but with it comes a lecture and I found it dreadfully boring.

now that I think about it, that farting example may not have been that good of an analogy, as I guess I don't care much who hears my butt whistle, but it is helpful when a dog is around.

The only thing worse is when they bite the end off of the damn cigar after slobbering all over it! Ugh! Give them Hav A Tampas or White Owls next time! Charlie

Are you turned off, or are you secretly turned on??? Actually, Abs, I agree 100% and have posted on this exact item some time back. As for downplaying your cigar knowledge, I do that too. Or am I just simply a dumb-ass? Hmmmm....

i thought i had responed but i guess not.
how was he to know you would be upset. if he knew, i'll bet he would not have done it in front of you.
i have given people cigars and asked them if they want the end cut and they respond by bitting the end off.
my lecture when i give someone a cigar is "i think you might like this."

we are all different creatures, with our own idiosyncrasies, life is easier when you don't bust your chops over what other people do, provided it does not interfere with you.

aberdeen,
I cannot imagine that someone would do that to your cigar. Oh but wait you gave it to them and it is now their cigar. I would say that maybe you shouldn't offer cigars unless your prepared to really let go and give up ownership totally.

Oh and by the way, if you go to a democratic fund raiser dont offer Bill Clinton a cigar; what he does would really get to you. He takes his cigars and ...........er nevermind just dont give him one.

I've never licked one up and down from end-to-end like a lolly-pop ... but I do tend to stick my cigar in my mouth before cutting it ... it seems to make for a cleaner cut.

But Ab, if you and I somehow ever end up herfing in-person, I'll be sure to remember to tell you to avert your eyes.

Ditto on the putting in mouth for a sec before cutting end cap.

My cigars spend more time being held in my mouth by my teeth than they do being held in my hand. This os one reason I like a 6" smoke or longer most of the time to keep thr smoke out of my eyes and nose from the foot burning.

But as I have said before, chomping on the end is all part of the process to me and adds to the enjoyment of smoking a good cigar, ie: a good smoke's ingredients could be chewed like chewing tobacco and it would taste as good. I use to chew, and thus, this practice is not alien to me.
