Thats two of the lighters I accidently picked up last week. I bid $3 with a max of $7. The last week they went for an average of $10-15. I ignored it and got them for $7. Hope they are worth it. He must be selling them for $25 a pop to make it worth it.

...I'm mystified by cigar prices. They vary widely. Take a used car for example, any make and model. You start with the Blue Book quote. Or an old coin. You start with the Collector's guide. That narrows the range so you can evaluate condition, defects, flaws, authenticity. Where do you start with cigars? The Internet is a lousy source. Prices on some sites are two or more years old. Others post a low price but haven't got the item and try to switch you to one they say "is just as good". There is no such thing as overbidding because there is no average or optimum price to measure against. The auction makes the market. Some items are going for more than they used to. The market for them might be going up. Some are going for less. The market for those might be going down. Overbidding is not a dead horse. It's a unicorn.

I liked the bidding on the punch/hoyo seconds. They sell them for 29 on their other site and they went for 37 here.

I hate underbidders. I always start by looking up the price of smokes at California smokeshops, then add 50% more and that is my starting bid. I always win.

There are plenty of sites out there of reputable dealers with accurate, up-to-date pricing. Ask around a few message boards and you'll get the links to the most popular ones. The decent sites all have about the same prices give or take a few dollars.

www.cigarsinternational.com is a good place to start as they are the company that runs cigarbid. It amazing to see people bidding way over what it would cost to just go buy a 5-pack direct. Like the 5-pack of CAO Gold Corona's that went the other day for $30+ that can be bought normally for $20. /boggle

God bless the overbidders. Make the site profitable for good ole CI and lets some of us get decent savings. Still fascinates me that people bid on the empty boxes. They are easy enough to light, but the draw is terrible.

If you practice your draw on a 3/4in. dowel you will find that a box draws real easy.

The Natural chest guy is worse than the humidor one. He is $26.00 over the CI price. Maybe he thought he was bidding on a 5-pack.

I still think the "I want all of them" SOBs are far worse than simple overbidders.

I bid on a Don Salvador travel humidor this morning when 4 of them went up. Some jackass strolls in and bids on the other three! Now the fricking lot is already at $10.00 and it closes on the 29th!

Who was it here that said that these jerks don't cause inflation of the average winning prices? Pretty simple to see why...when you SHUT OUT everyone else from bidding, the price is obviously going to skyrocket as people try to bid in.

Oh well, I guess I will most likely have to try again next time. The multi-quantity thing is really getting out of hand. Nearly every auction these days has a clown in it that tries to wrap their moronic arms around the entire lot.

ya know.... I used to think that getting in early, assured me of getting a low price more often. In actuality, it doesn't, unless everyone that bids after you is bidding the same price, or lower. And if they are higher... SO WHAT? You'll still be in for a price that is within the range, you deemed ok. And if he bids a dollar higher on every stinkin lot....SO WHAT? You weren't going to pay that price anyway. So you get mad at someone cause they're willing to pay a buck more than yer cheap ass? Am I missing something?

Oh...I have moved on...I have been buying most of my favorites from my previous supplier. I am willing to pay 2-5% more to have them ship the same day and not worry about waiting two weeks to get them. CBID is a great site and the service can't be beat, but the overbidders and HOGs have ruined it for me.

As far as the HOG bidders go, I have a sneaking suspicion that there is some kind of warped concept among many CBID customers that bidding on entire lots is somehow an ingenious trick that gets you a better deal. Anyone who has observed a week 's worth of auctions knows that this notion is simply ridiculous! If anything, the practice drives the prices higher than average and most HOGs get bumped before the close anyway.

There definitely are some pretty dumb people in this world, no doubt about it!
