It's a piece of wood. Yes, It is pretty, but it's also a renewable resource. In the unlikely event you burn that one up I'm sure Paul will make you another if you ask real nice.

The glass is not a Pyrex/Heavy Duty piece.

It appears to be just a regular piece of glass cut to fit.

As for polished edges on the glass.You do not need that.It's in the bottom.

It's probably the best gift I've ever received because of that reason. The fact that he cared enough to think of me and then specifically make it just for me and it's not just a general piece he made and later decided to give it to me as a gift makes me feel pretty good every time I look at it. I think I know exactly how you feel about that ashtray.

Celtic, the wood inlay in the bottom is African Paduak and is nice to work with and has a very pleasant aroma.....almost vanilla like.

And Chris I'm glad it has a sentimental value to you!!!
