Them is some big guns, I have a Remington 700 chambered in .338 RUM that is fun to shoot. I got it just in case I get a chance someday to hunt some really big game. Also have a Ruger No. 1 Tropical in 458 Lott, expensive little bugger to shoot but fun.

Well that probably would not work for moose hunting here. But for two legged vermin I have a similar loadout. Just not issued. Mossberg 930 spx. Slugs and 3" double ought buck. A few ar type things and a pile of handguns. Us fire guys may appear to be cute and snuggly but we are also paranoid.

Well yes without a doubt. This is Alaska. Right to carry state. If you are legal to own you can carry concealed. Pretty much any time I am in the woods or on the 4 wheeler I have my 44 on my belt. As far as I am concerned a good day is a day I get to put on my smith.

I dont have the 375 h&h yet. That being said the 375 Ruger kicks a little harder with a little bit better ballistics. Just barely. The advantage is the 375 Ruger fits in an 06 length action. The gun I have has a good recoil pad. It does not hurt to shoot, but that being said I mounted the scope too far forward so I was creeping it. The recoil caused my right thumb to give me a fa lip. I gotta fix that. Truth be told about the worst recoil most folks will experience is 31/2 inch turkey loads. The numbers on those is just nasty.

I shoot the 3 1/2's from my 835, no big deal. Got a bit of a cut on my eye once from a scope, Gonic muzzleloader packed with 150 grains BP and a 500 gr bullet, ouch.

I am a big believer in good recoil pads. My 300 win mag has a 1" sims on it...I think or a pachmeyer.. It is a very light gun like 6 lbs. it hurts way less to shoot off the bench than my 270 that weighs 11 pounds with a fossilized old rubber pad. When I got my 930 spx I put a sims on it. When I shoot it, I know it is a big recoil but it does not hurt. Just like the 375 Ruger. But there is still lots of muzzle jump.

Yep 338 way worse than any thing I have. 338 is brutal.

I would think the .375 would be worse. That 458 Lott packs a punch but with open sights no need to worry about getting smacked.

Dubleuhb...for whatever reason your posts did not make it to me. Sir you have humbled me. My 375 is no way to be compared to your 458 Lott .. My goodness that is a serious caliber if you want to come up here and shoot big bears i can't guide you but I would love to come as packer and support. You are way tougher than I am.
