ouch, they got the student discount, or you can go drop a grand at best buy, I have a 13" macbook pro, brand new, but it was a replacement from the one I bought while working/traveling, and the Insurance had to replace it!

Get ready to pick up some OT, brother.

I may have an old PowerBook here. If memory serves, the battery is bad but works just fine plugged in.

I have a white apple but it too needs a new battery. Only works plugged in. Have no idea how much a battery costs. For how much they cost they shouldn't need batteries

tbone - consider a mac air rather than the macbook. Also consider a year old model from flebay. I have purchased a couple used imacs over the years this way.

not sure what your daughter plans on using it for, but the high-end ipad with a wireless keyboard may meet her needs as well.

if you buy new, buy the applecare plan. quality control is not what it once was ...........

I really like my MBA for portability but be aware that replacing parts can cost far more than normal. That and my late 13" Ultimate (purchased in early 2011) doesn't support Airplay, which really hurt my feelings.

Tuck, if she wants a new dell let me know. Also if you find a lappy that needs a little repair, I can fix most anything.
