So, about 7 years ago, while in Iraq, I started smoking cigars and ordering them through this very site. I dropped the habit when I got back to the states. Fast forward to now, married and a kid, and just happened to be on a Gamecock football forum and saw someone posting about cigars and remembered good ol' cigar bid.
Well, I got my nice never-used humidor out (Don Salvatore 100 count). Ordered a seasoning kit on here. It's currently seasoning my humidor. Around 7 o'clock tonight will be 24 hours (per the instructions). It has the big rectangle style humidifier in it, and I bought a couple bottles of 70/70.
So after it's seasoned, I just need to pour the 70/70 over the humidifier until it's fully saturated, put it in the humidor - and that's about it right? As far as humidifier maintenance? Are there any cons to using the CI 70/70 over say distilled water + additives?
As far as enjoying cigars, I have no idea what my taste preference will be. In Iraq, I tried to take every cigar for what it was worth. If it was a light wrapper and light-medium body, I tried to enjoy that. I think I personally preferred darker wrapped / full bodied cigars, but tastes change.
I remember really liking the Drew Estates Pimp Stick (though it isn't dark wrapped and is medium bodied), and have a 5 pack on the way. Also have won Gurkha Black Beauty - 5-Pack, CAO 'VR' Convergence - 5-Pack. Any opinions on those cigars? I might as well be a first timer trying to really understand cigar flavors and develop a palette for them. What advice would you give a cigar newb?
I haven't done extensive searching on these forums for seasoning instructions, I'm going to do that now, but wanted to go ahead and get a conversation going from those 'in the know' and verify that I was/wasn't on the right track. I know cigar taste and preference is going to be a personal opinion, but if a cigar is really bad, everyone will pretty much know it.
Thanks in advance for being constructive.
