That box fits in the space that six robustos would. It'd definitely help buffer, but would never manage to replace lost humidity on a longer time scale.
Based on my (casual, but thorough) testing, the weight difference between a 70F five inch block of spanish cedar at 40%RH and 70%RH is at MOST a gram or two, and depends heavily on the particular hunk of wood you are working with. Heartwood from SC is so dense it will dull out stainless forstner bits, while the newest growth is almost punky and used for veneers and the like.
I actually found a very specific formula that allows you to calculate the amount of moisture to add to a particular weight of silica at known RH and temp based on volume of the storage space. It's actually a paper about the preservation of museum exhibits and artifacts, but really, shouldn't that describe a good humi as well?
