Looking for some advise as I am splitting a lot of caps with my new Xikar punch. Maybe I'm not holding them close enough to the cap?? Thoughts appreciated, smokes are still smokable, mostly - ruined one MUWAT +11 - cracked her bad....[ram27bat]

Moisten the cigar, a punch is a personal item, push the punch lightly while twisting back and forth. Let the blade slice the cap, not push through it.

+2 if the cap isn't a little moist it'll crack most every time. I don't use anyone's punch but my own.

I use a sharp guillotine cutter and snip very thin and clean. No problem.

Xi2 and v. Punches are a thing of the past for me. A good percent of the time I was hacking the foot off because of build up. And no, I am not willing to slow down my smoking speed. I slowed down enough from cigs to cigars. I accept that my cig past stays with me to make me a faster cigar smoker than normal but that tends to be ok with anything but the punch

I've damaged about 1/4 of the caps I've punched. I gave up on the punch for this reason.

I've always moistened the tip when using my cutter, guess I never thought of that with a punch. I'll give it a try and see how it goes. And yes I do the twist and push [whip]
