From Trish in earlier thread:

Philly Jack wrote:
and I got it right from Graycliff that you own some of there bands also or are you calling the Graycliff rep a lair. Trish does CI reproduce cigars with other manufactures names on the label yes or no it's that easy.

We pay a fee to use their name. Its called a licensing fee, kinda like the fee you pay to be able to put your pro sports teams' names on t-shirts, jerseys, etc. So no, he's not a liar. But Graycliff is aware of it as they rake in the money. Nothing underhanded and no one has ever said that these cigars are from the Bahamas. We'll make mention of their name in the marketing information but again, nothing underhanded there.

You may not like how 95% of the products in the world are marketed, but that doesn't make it wrong. There's a lot of things I don't like: Pistashio ice cream, high credit card interest rates, kids mouthing off to their parents. But most of it I can't fix. So, like the pistashio ice cream thing, I just don't buy it. if you don't like the Graycliff cigars we sell, don't buy them.

..........

More from Trish:

[graycliffs are] a sanctioned product, made in a different location.

If you want the real deal Graycliff cigars, you MUST purchase them from the hotel in the Bahamas. They don't distribute them anywhere else, to the best of my knowledge. So its safe to say that if you're purchasing it from us, its not made in the Bahamas. If you do your homework, you would find this information out and not be looking for them on an auction site.

If you were to buy a t-shirt that said Dalla Cowboys on it that wasn't licensed by the NFL, that would be a knock-off. If you go to Chinatown in NYC and buy a 'coach' purse that isn't actually made by Coach, that's a knock-off. If you buy a Graycliff cigar that you don't like, was made in Honduras but is licensed to a company that had it made in Honduras, that is NOT a knock-off - its a cigar you don't like.

Ok.now another question....platinum I smoked did say bahamas...so its a real graycliff??? The rest are basically fake?........So blending, construction etc is different I take it?This seems very problematic at a major level.....

Wow....why the edit?

I like fake sticks then I guess....As I said I looked again cpl wrappers...labels have Bahamas.....The platinum in particular is the one I said was ALOT different taste ...Thought due to line...So these basically could be made by anyone different monthly, yearly etc...?

It was a joke Charlie, touchy subject with the moderators.

They own licensing rights to some Graycliff lines, buyer beware and do your research as the type hype in description of lots isn't always forthcoming with that info.

If you like a cigar that's cheaper I say great news for you!

I like a few non-Bahamas Graycliffs myself.

The bands say Bahamas. But that's not where they're made. Unless you actually went to the hotel and bought there.

They're made under license elsewhere, retailers sell em, make money. Distributors sell em, make money. Trademark owners don't have to do anything, and make money.

Some of them are decent smokes, but being third party cigars, there isn't much incentive for the factory to turn out top notch consistent product. So I wouldn't actively seek them out, but if you grab em cheap here, or someone gives me one, ill smoke it.

I had several Platinums from a sampler. I note the Web site says Honduran now on those. They tasted good but poor construction. Unravelled. No way near worth the retail price.

The G2s I don't care for myself but got some cheap to give out. Very "grassy"

Oh yes and I remember a big deal being made that the bands say "Bahamas" where company headquartered and not "made in the Bahamas"
