I sit as straight up as possible, icy hot works a little. I also use a heat pad for a little while. Hot shower feels good also. Muscle relaxer and motrin. Walk every hour, even if it's just a few steps.

Booze is my go to for back pain, heat also helps. A whirlpool or hot tub can help to. I have serious back issues and meds such as muscle relaxants and other drugs just keep me from sleeping.

Might be a good idea to see a doctor for some spinal pictures and a bone density test.

Oxy chased with a generous pour of bourbon. Followed by some MMJ instead of your cigar. Then seek Wheel's advice.

Back pain sucks. See your doctor.

Suffered through it for 35 years. Two surgeries ten years ago and since then have been mostly good. Only thing that does it for me is a taper down round of pred started at the first hint of pain. Narcotics help with the pain but do nothing for the inflammation which is the ultimate source of the pain. The answer no one likes to hear.... you just have to deal with it the best you can. And, when its time for surgery no one's going to have to tell you. You'll know. Best of luck!

After visiting the Doc to make sure it isn't an actual injury.

Treat symptoms immediately, don't be the stoic man and wait until back spasms have you on the floor. The sooner you treat them the faster you will recover.

Relax as much as possible. Anger and worry go hand in had with back pain.

Keep moving, don't sit still to long

Use heat sparingly and alternate with cold. Heat makes things expand and that usually is not helpful, never sleep on a heating pad.

Ibuprofen or prescription muscle relaxers

Treat your back as a second wife, do what it wants and no one gets hurt.

Don't lift anything heavier than a six pack.

I feel your pain, I've had back problems for many years and one back surgery. Back pain from spasms can be excruciating, but once my back doc told it's just muscles spasms not damage that potentially will get worse it was a lot easier to deal with.

Instead of Icy Hot, find Bio-Freeze. It is what many chiropractors suggest. Much more heat and burn that Icy Hot.

On the Floor flat on your belly

Slowly raise up to your elbows while looking straight ahead and try to hold at least 30 seconds but don't make it worse by over doing it. /

Try this every half hour and hold it longer as you improve then when you feel up to it move to extending the arms the whole way for a little while to.. Do these as much as you can for a few days . Then do this at least once a day forever.30 years ago they told me my back was so bad i would be in a wheelchair within the next 15 years but do these to help.. I took them serious and actually work out almost every day for an hour even though i have sever Fibromyalgia.

You need to take control of your own body to succeed, diet and exercise are needed to do that except for a lucky few born with luck.

PS: This exercise adds to a normal waistline 2- 3 inches of muscle and it's that that provides the support you need to make up for reduced disc cushioning. It is worth it..

before taking any of the advice, discover the source of the pain. different options for the various categories of disc damage, bulging vs herniated etc, all of which can cause pressure on nerves such as sciatica. You may not have that, could not tell from the op.

could be weakened muscles too, for which there are several small exercises a PT could show you (pelvic tilts etc).

assuming it's lower back pain one thing that may help regardless of the source is when laying on your back, place a small pillow up under your thighs, not under your knees, which takes pressure off of your lower spine/lumbar.

use the same pillow when laying on your side if you sleep that way, and place it between your thighs. this also removes back pressure.

Not matter what, do what you can to stay away from OxyContin. Took me a year to get weened off that stuff. It's pure farking evil and should be removed from the market.
