Forget battery operated and stick with gas. If never used try Echo and they can be found at HD.

That's kinda where I was going...buying low quality items will give you a season...maybe...buy industrial or commercial grade...last a lifetime.

of course you have to do PM's and be handy with a wrench or two.

Just can't imagine a battery anything having the ass to do more that some suburbanite average little yard. 5 acres? Oh hell no!

Don't like the price of new? Check CL for a week or two and reward yourself!

Gas is a pain in the arse if you don't need it. I think mine is a ryobi and I love it. Long charge, powerful, gets the job done. 3-4 years old. Little maintanance, quiet, no gas runs prior to using, no smell, cleaner just works.

If you don't need gas don't hesitate.

I got rid of my gas trimmer and leaf blower years ago and went over to propane powered ones. For the size lawn I have and the low frequency that I need to use them, they work well for me. No batteries to keep track/remember to charge, good power and no gasoline vapors in my garage. The company is "LEHR", I don't think they make garden equipment anymore, but straight shaft trimmer looks like it's still available at closeout hardware dealers. The blower is what it is, it's a handheld, like all hand helds it's not great but it works well enough. The line trimmer (there were two - this is the larger, straight shaft one) is pretty powerful, more powerful than the ryobi gas trimmer that it replaced.

What TW said^^^^^

I've had the Toro trimmer and blower for a couple of years. The blower lacks a bit for anything heavy but digging the set up. Just grab and go.

Don't be a puzzie!

Stick to the electric one, and use a 100ft extension cord.

Not long enough? Wheel out yor generator, and plug your 100ft extension cord into that!

That's how I roll........

http://m.homedepot.com/p/Ryobi-40-Volt-Lithium-Ion-Cordless-String-Trimmer-Edger-RY40210B/203763425

Never regretted it. 700 reviews 4 stars.

Had 2 two cycles Deere and Homelite. When they worked it was fine but I appreciate the ryobi over them in nearly every way.

No battery issues after 3-4 years. When I'm done I throw the battery in the charger and it's ready for next time. If the battery does deteriorate some year I'll drop another hundred bucks and by the new tech at that time.

If I had a lot of land or intense work to do I'd go 2 cycle but a battery model is definitely the better choice in some instances.

Some folks get a riding lawn mower for a 1/8 acre lot. To each their own.

I've used the WORX 'TriVac" for two seasons now and like it alot.

I've been looking at THESE trimmers as a possible purchase.

https://www.worx.com/trimmers-edgers.html

I don't have a huge area to deal with, so this light weight unit should be just fine for my needs.

I like the "3 in 1" versatility.

🤔

Maybe the 40 volt Ryobi that TW mentioned is a better option.

Same price as the worx, but 40 volts as opposed to 20.

Hmmmmmm . . .

BTW, if I were buying today, I'd probably go with the battery units. At the time I switched over, the battery technology was expensive and not that good. Plus, I paid less than $100 including tax for both propane units at the time because they were being closed out.

I like the Worx 32 volt because it is a good combo of life and still real light and has wheels if you get tired. plus it has the best and easiest line loading i ever saw with pop in spools . if you buy on their site you get a 15% off1st timer discount , a second battery (worth 69.00) ,six free spools of line and free spools of line for life. With freight and tax it came in at 149..The batteries last 50 minutes or so and charge in 2 hours. So with 2 batteries you can go 110 minutes .It also works as an edger and a trimmer mower with quick height adjustment.
