Anyone had any experience with gel in their humidor instead of distilled water?

I have used distilled water since the beginning of my cigar smoking journey. Heartfelt beads... 65%. No cat litter. Even my CAT doesn't use cat litter (she goes outside).

Thanks. I've read about gel just not sure it's any better.

Gel sucks, don't listen to this guy, Cat litter sprayed with distilled water works just fine, bonus points for letting the cat test it out first to make sure it works.

Just say NO to putting a material that a cat pisses on in your humi.
Buck up and don't be a cheapskate when it comes to proper storage.

Distilled water. Heartfelt beads. That's all you need to use.

meh, don't listen to these nay sayers, I have HF beads and bovedas in my wineador, but I use kitty litter in my overflow cooler.

Kitty litter holds solid at 63 to 65 for months and I live in the desert.

Granted, I don't put my Padrons, habanos and high end Fuentes in the the cooler... but that's besides the point.

I would argue that kitty litter is vastly more superior to those gel pack thingies or a sponge with water on it.

If you just got one of those 50 count humidors, just throw a 65 boveda pack or 2 in it and call it a day.

Do I like the HF beads... sure, do I think they out-perform the kitty litter.... lol no.

Edit:

Oh ya, we're talking about the silica crystal kind of kitty litter, not that dirt looking chit.

Blue crystals my man!

They are amazing!

Have to make sure you get your white/blue ratio right.

Too little, too low... too many, too high, there must be balance, like the yin and the yang!

Just remember that HF beads will consume higher humidity when needed. Most gels just keep putting out humidity and will turn dark color in less than a year from my experience a while ago. So spend the dough and protect your precious investments.

He might be protecting a few fivers of victor sinclair and a handful of ghurks... if so, the beads cost more than the cigars, use kitty litter, lol.

Don't let these guys confuse you. It really boils down to a preference, whichever works better for you. Try both, and see which you prefer!

Distilled water is tasteless and the gel should only be used for combing difficult hair.
