I'm tired of me cooler. Its almost full, visually unappealing and a pain to dig to the bottom of due to an excellent game of cigar box tetris. I'm thinking about making the cabinet humidor plunge. I was considering doing a walk in closet one in my office but I won't be in this house for more than a few more years so seems like a waste. Need something I can take with me.

Could someone that knows what they talking about please take a look at these and lemme know what you think?

IMHO Best thing to do is go with what the cigar stores use commercially or even a few of the nicer ones you might find at a good liquor store. Your other option, if you're a craftsman would be to retrofit a china cabinet or other gallery style piece of furniture to suit your endeavor.

Ideally I want something big where I can see everything and not forget what I have (although that's fun sometimes...)

I'm not much of a craftsman and really don't have time for another project in the near future. I would be willing to make minor mods to improve the seal on something already made.

How big of a pain is it to keep humidity in a cabinet? I assumed large active system + beads + boveda wouldn't be so bad but maybe I'm way off.

Boveda packs won't do you much good in a large cabinet unless you have a crate of them.

Not hard to keep humidity if you have a decent cabinet.

Those two, yeah, they will probably have issues for you. Those look like commercial units that were used for sales, where people were opening and closing them all day long, so the fact that they leak isn't important.

Looking at the more expensive one again... it might be an older higher end unit. You'd have to go see it in person, hard to tell from the photo.

Nick,

I have the Verona stand up style humidor and have had no complaints with it over the years, plenty of storage for singles and boxes alike. Got it here for just under $400 and a $175 delivery charge to my home. I use a Cigar Oasis electronic unit and a glass jar or two with HF beads.

If it were me, I'd go to a place with CHEAP humidors and get a new TOWER for under $800 shipped.

The sliding doors would be a pain in my opinion. I have two Towers of Power upstairs and love them. Also have a large wine cooler in the basement. All have been really good for storage.

They are all consistent. I use the refrigeration unit on the wine cooler to keep the temp at 64. Our basement gets rather warm in the winter with the heat running.

cigar box tetris... sounds awfully familiar. I am almost afraid to dig cause afterwards, I start panicking trying to put it back the way it was and it doesn't quite work out well. Once you are done, share the knowledge so i can entertain the idea. thank you.

Just last year took a old chest freezer and lined it with Spanish Cedar - it works amazing at holding humidity!!! (I don't keep it plugged in LOL) and have about $75 in 1/4 spanish cedar into it. Freezer was bought many years ago and stopped working.
