Well, since this is the overbid/understock/pricing/complaint thread de jure, I shall post my 2 cents.

The real problem is not the crazy over-bids. Those people are either drunk or clueless and that will take care of itself. The big issue is all the many, many, bids that are right at or even just a hair below regular online pricing. That means a lack of bargains and that means its not worth the time, trouble, and uncertainty of bidding when you can just get what you want right away.

The real death of a bidding site is not one person paying $50 for a single Gurkha, its too many people paying right at retail for sticks available elsewhere.

"Fiver A" opens at $18, and there's 5 lots.
If all lots get bids, the next time Fiver A comes up, the starting point is higher, $19 or $20.
If all lots get bids, it goes up again.
At some point, people refuse to bid. After a week or two of no bids, the price drops back down, and the process starts over.
Pretty slick.

I agree that the bidding prices are much higher than just a few months ago. I have been using cbid for years and have seen a modest increase in the bidding prices over the years. But recently it has skyrocketed. Every few months I bid on a couple of hundred lots and typically walk away winning $250.00 worth of sticks. This was the case 4 months ago when I got my last order. Last week I did the same and won NOTHING! Winning bids seem to be about 50% higher than just a few months ago. I assume some retailers have begun using this site to get their stock and are buying up everything at higher prices. I will start looking elsewhere for my cigars.

Either it's a good deal or it's not.

Just looked at some prices of things I've bought here in the past, they are up higher than the point than I'm willing to pay for them, and that's ok... It just means I won't be buying them :)

As far as the higher starting prices like KotC mentioned, I actually don't mind them as long as it's a decent deal. I know on another site with higher starting prices, if I'm in buy mode, and it's a decent deal, I'll bid. It's more like a standard shopping cart at that point.

I don't need DP Newell level pricing to buy, but I do look for the best deal I can get at the moment when I'm buying.

I'll probably wait till after summer before I go back on cigar buy mode anyway, so hopefully by then it's calmed down a bit.

Now , back to bidding....
It is very very different than 2005 to 2014....
THEN
2015 to 2016...the tides were turning...
2017 ...well it an exercise in futility and
Way overpriced...

Not C-bids doing at all...

Just too many rich people found out about this site and dont stop bidding at 75%-50% off retail like we all used to...

Ohhhh, the good old cheap bidding dayzzzz are gone forever...

I also stocked up before the meltdown. 1 100 count humi, 1 50 count humi and a coolador with about 400. I can survive the summer just sniping here and there 🙂

What we're talking about is the fact that there are fewer lots in 'quickies' & 'fivers' now~ than there were before. We're talking about the "engineered" higher bids in those categories~ than before. In effect, we're talking about how easily we 'sheep' are led about by those we used to trust...

I've been buying my sticks on cbids for the last year or so and have loved it but now I just put an order in at cigars international because they had a better deal than I could get here. I got stick to fall back on but hope bidding goes back too normal soon.

Just my two cents. I had a meltdown after the fda thing and stocked up during the fall last year. Back then there were about 3500 auction items at all times. Now there is barely around 1300 after the cbid Tango Uniform on their system. There are a 1/3 of the items listed as supposed to before. So obviously its gonna cost more to get items. I still love cbid but where it was %80 - %90 of my purchases being fron cbid now its about %25 . Still i feel like i am ahead from years of cbid shopping. So still very thankful.

This might actually be a good thing actually since i get to save some money and burn thru the stash.

Cbid ain't as good as it once was. True enough. What that should do is get you to explore other alternatives. I have and what you'll find is that there's nothing out there that is as good as what Cbid once was, but there are great deals to be had.

And don't ignore Cbid. Depending on what you want and how well you are at playing the game, Cbid still should be on your radar. I tend to buy cigars once a month and probably use Cbid every 3rd or 4th month. For certain cigars, Cbid still can't be beat.
