It's not unusual. My wife lived in a suburb (if you want to call it that) of San Juan and went 7 weeks without power following a much lessor one. Her grandmother on the other side of the island went about the same or longer.


Still haven't heard from anyone. Can't get through.

May be a blessing in disguise. Can't see that PR was going to improve their grid on their own. Now, we can all help....which was probably going to happen anyway....now we can't complain without sounding heartless

They were hoping to do something of the sort with insurance money from the one that just grazed them. I think you may be right but it may have been nice to have it happen without near total destruction and perhaps deaths.

I just remembered we have a 25% interest in two houses that are vacant and need to be sold. Wonder what kind of shape they are in.

Last time I was there I was impressed with the giant concrete power poles.. they looked wind proof to me.. I heard there's ship loads of power equipment heading that way from Jacksonville.. I don't think they'll get the help Houston or Florida did tho... 😟

Giant concrete in some places but wood and birds nests in most. That's the problem with San Juan as a whole. Mixture of concrete and wood homes and a urban rural mix. Get away from san juan though and its mostly rural and not so sturdy homes.

I hope you are right, but PR is a mess without this and their infrastructure is frail not hearty. Their recession has seriously hurt upkeep both institutionally and at the individual level.

Our two houses are mostly concrete, but are older. The power grid to them is iffy on a good day, as is water etc. I have no doubt they are now worth much less than they were. I don't even know if the cousins kept up on insurance.

I'm flying in there Dec 10th.. hopefully I'll get a window seat... I would expect the Airport and Ports will be functioning by then... Got an e-mail from the cruise-line yesterday stating they were changing up the itinerary thing... 😟
