Read the title again. It does not say "Best Guitarist" since like an opinion, everyone has an arsehole they're all different, I think.

David Gilmour

I could listen to him daily and never tire of hearing him play.

BTW, I'm listening to him play now. He's on MTV Live.

My hands down, all-time guitarist is Eric Clapton.

Maybe because of his longevity, maybe because of the different styles he's played over the years, maybe because I've seen him live 5 times, whatever the reason, he's the guy I could listen to everyday of the year and not get tired.

A close second would be SRV...oh what might have been....

When Jimi Hendrix wanted a lesson or advice who did he go to?

I've been listening to a LOT of Peter Frampton and his solos are simply amazing. The entire song is reigned back and then the solo explodes with a sonic fury. Doesn't lose a step live either.

Favorite is impossible. The one that jumped into my head first was Mick Ronson. Tomorrow it might be JJ Cale, Alex Lifeson, Robert Quine, Robert Fripp, Dick Wagner, Russ Ballard, or Steve Marriott. The day after that might Be Roy Clark, Sugarfoot Garland, or Merle Travis.

Stevie Ray Vaughn and Slash come to mind.

Lot of great guitarists though.

One of my brother's favorite guitarists is Gilmour though... his opinion has more weight than mine because my brother is an excellent guitarist.

As a Who freak I still love the rhythms that Pete Townshend performed. His live acoustic version of Drowned at The Secrets Policeman's Ball still amazes me.

But Gilmore is one of my favorites. Not the staccato, rhythmic thing (ala U2's the Edge) that he did on his early solo work. But the deep soul catching solo's from 1970's Floyd and then reinvented on his most recent stuff.

I have to say David Gilmour is fantastic =d> =d> and Pink Floyd is one of my favorite bands evah, but my favorite Guitarist changes depending on my mood..........Mark Knopfler plays a great guitar, love me some Roy Buchanan, and Joe Walsh plays great and has the best guitar face I've ever seen=d> =d>

another guy that people went to for help, may still for all I know, but never gets mentioned is Richard Thompson. Talk about versatile...from folkie stuff to Shoot Out the Lights.

But it seems when the question of favorite comes around, I usually go to Jeff Beck, sometimes Hendrix.
