Movies are the cultural icon of America, a media form that we invented more than a century ago. It is one of the means that spread American influence all over the world in the 20th century.
The world-wide and domestic success of many American movies says the industry is still robust. Too much creative and imaginative stuff being produced that the rest of the world is captivated by. The industry will outlive many of those who have said it is dead.

Movies aren't going anywhere... Hollywood on the other hand? The land of perverts and pedophiles? The place that made Kevin Spacey, that Weinstein guy, and a bunch of people like them not only rich and famous but enabled their lifestyles? Irrelevant before the end of my lifetime...

I did browse through some of the nominated films in the award show and only recognized "Dunkirk" and "Get Out." Both decent films. Oh, and "Blade Runner." Never saw that one...

Only a 18.9 percent Nelson rating, making it one of the least watched Oscars of all time. Maybe middle America is finally getting tired of a bunch of self important, narcissist hypocrites telling them how to live and vote.

we go to a lot of movies. I thin I've gone to 4-5 in the last few weeks. We went to two on the same night. i'm getting old though. we actually bought more tickets.

damn its expensive now.

Being retired, I can go to the early matinees, for $5...a real bargain given night time weekend prices at $15 and up...at those times with most of the screening rooms with just a few customers, I can see two movies without being hassled by the staff...concession prices are ridiculous, though... not that there are too many healthy choices...

The one time I've been to the theatres in the last twenty-some years was when my wife's company rented out a theatre for their employees and we took the kids and watched despicable me 3... kids loved it, daughter was dancing and singing... that was awesome... i do love cartoons...

Al When you say, "I can see two movies without being hassled by the staff" are you saying you pay for one movie and then just wander around into another movie and if you get caught you act like a disoriented old man who doesn't understand how movie theatres work in this, the year 2018? Cuz i already had a lot of respect for you but it might have just gone up significantly...

Check out moviepass.com a friend of mine mentioned it to me a few weeks back. You are basically filling seats in the theater, like $8 / month for a movie per day, any showing, no blackouts, standard projection only (no IMAX or 3D upgrades) the thing is, you have to use their app to activate the CC for the show you want to see when you are at the theater and you have to buy at the box office. It works well for him, he catches one or two movies a week with it.

No need to elevate my status...I've only watched 3-4 "extra" movies while paying only the price of the first one. Since retirement, I've gone to the movies alone because my wife is not a fan and would rather watch stuff like "the Bachelor", "Say Yes to the Dress", "The Voice", and movies on the Hallmark Channel, all stuff that fills the DVR.

Being a cheapskate, I usually go to one of the matinee shows on week-days, when ticket prices are lowest, beating Senior ticket rates. There were a couple of times when I watched a movie all by myself, not a single other person in the room. When the first movie ended, and I had nothing else going on and felt like seeing another, I'd check the marquees over the entrances to the other screen rooms. If the show was starting within the next 15-20 minutes and it was something I wanted to watch, I'd go to the concession stand and grab a snack or re-fill for my soda before going in to watch the next movie.

The concessionaire saw me walking from an interior part of the complex, so he/she must've been aware. They never said anything, and I didn't ask if I could watch another movie. Theater complexes all have security cams so I'm sure the theater staff who may've been monitoring knew that I was sticking around for another movie, but nobody ever said anything to me. Perhaps nobody was watching because there were so few staff on duty. More likely, it was no big deal because on those days and during those hours, most of the movies are shown in empty screen rooms. If challenged, I would've pointed out that the place was empty.

Is this worse than speeding, keeping a library book past the due date? That "disoriented old man who doesn't understand how movie theaters work" quote stung and can be interpreted as disapproval...is this worse than telling a "white lie"?

I've only seen a dozen or so seinfeld episodes, but I remember one where he had an uncle that was of perfectly sound mind, but when he would get caught doing something he wasnt supposed to he'd act like a disoriented old man... I don't remember it too well, but that's the image I was picturing when I read your story...

seems like what you're doing is not only harmless, but generating extra concession sales and I applaud you... like it or not, your status is elevated... if I was cam, I'd rename you tufor...
