since when has everything become a pk? he needs to give the player a chance to still make a play on the ball? I don't see the guy trying to hurdle the defender to stay up. it's becoming idiotic

It's one of the problems with the sport. They need to make a few tweaks in the rules to keep up with the ever faster, quicker, stronger players.

I'd like to see two kinds of PKs.
One that is how it is now, and should be what I'd call a "flagrant" foul.
Then a second level foul, maybe call it "hindrance", or something like that. It's where it's not flagrant/intentional, but nonetheless a foul. In that situation, the PK is taken from further away.......I don't know.....maybe 3 meters deeper.

The officials are allowed to review the foul to determine Flagrant or Hindrance.

Some of it is annoying.

There isn't supposed to be any contact in the box, but there is- on every play. Then again, no different from Holding penalties in the NFL. When commentary is 'there was contact in the box, but not enough' it gets confusing.

What bugs me is when a defender wraps both arms around an attacking player on a corner kick and Nothing is called.

That and the uneven calls of fouls, and whether it is a foul or not depending on whether they got the ball first.

Yea the hitting the ball first thing annoys me. It doesn’t matter if you hit the ball first. I was a defender. It’s all about the angle and contact. Wrong angle... listen for the whistle regardless of touching the ball.

I don’t want any rule changes. We seem to keep wanting to change every sports rules.

I do want yellow cards for flops. That can be done under current rules.

a foul is a foul. its that simple. body to body contact without a play on the ball is a foul. if the ball is lose, like not at your feet, it is a 50/50 ball open to either team. there will be contact there and as long as you are intentionally just playing a ball, you can have contact. if there is a foul in the box, then its a pk. doesnt matter if its a hindrance or not. i liked the two possible pk calls. the commentary is the problem. they dont know what they are talking about.

1) played the ball, cleanly and initially. afterwards the korean goes down. thats called defending. i dont know where this notion of you have to allow the player a chance to play on the ball came from. then he mentioned that since it was a light clear that stayed in bounds, the defender cant bring the offensive player down? dumbest thing i heard. great no call.

2) played the player (initial contact) to get to the ball. its a foul there, cant play the man ever first. and to help, 0 contact with the ball. loved that they looked back at it and got it right. nothing against the ref there, just a tough angle to see. love seeing VAR on that.

some of this commentary is really off like 8track said. counting fouls for accumulation is not a rule. neymar being unable to run shoulder to shoulder with a person is not a foul (yes, he does get clipped a lot, but no more then CR7 or messi or hazard, they just dont go to ground as easy).

rant over. cant wait to see kane "on his quest for the golden boot" - heard that today and damn near died. had salah been healthy, could be scary to see how many goals he would rack up in that group...

You don’t have to hurdle the defender to stay up nor give them a chance to make a play on the ball.

that was the dumbest thing i heard this morning. i am happy Gus is also around to balance Alexi out. no idea how he used to be a defender.

I see what you are saying and agree for the most part. As a defender I always held my breath in the box. You never knew what the ref would do. You are best off staying on your feet hands to yourself, but sometimes you have to take a chance.

I gave away pks when I shouldn’t have and got away with quite a few.

Fun game. I don’t want to eliminate the human element. It’s too fun to bitch lol.

I watched about a half hour late last night of Germany vs Mexico. Sloppy play, some good defense, and Mexico flops like the Houston Rockets.

The problem with being a defender in the box is a great play often looks like a penalty in real time until you get to see it in slow mo or several times in real time. Refs don’t have that luxury or angle

na. thats why i i am enjoying the way they are implementing the VAR without questioning judgement.

Englands dominance outweighed by a moronic play from a Hotspur.

So many missed opportunities England has missed. Could easily be 4-1 at the half.

Will have to rely on the dvr the next three plus days.

Colombia Japan Poland and Senagal will have to play tomorrow without me.

not intentionally bogus...ball was in Senegal's third of the field when the ref waved the injured player back onto the field...who could've foreseen that Poland would play a back-pass across the half line just after the Senagal player ran onto the field ... which would lead to that? Other Senegal goal was a Polish sausage ... own goal.

Senegal looked stronger and well-organized on defense...is everybody on their team 6'6" or taller?

Rough day for the bracket.

Had Columbia and Poland advancing and Russia not.
