My wife and I were shopping today for a vacuum cleaner. Checked Consumer Reports beforehand and off we went. We found CR's best buy but the price tag was missing, as we were waiting to find the price another gentleman comes along to purchase the same one. He's got his smartphone with the store's price which he shares with us. I thank him and proceed to mention that it's a CR best buy. He then tells me that it doesn't matter because they all SUCK! 🌫

Go for a SHARK, Moonie.
Half the price of a Dyson and works great.
Most popular vacuum among our Norwegian Elkhound Club (very hairy dogs that shed LOTS).

Almost none are built to last, but I have a Filter Queen in the basement that dates back to the late 60's or early 70s that still works fine. Shark seems to be a decent machine, but they don't look very durable.

Similar experience with the filter Queen. Parents bought in the early 80s and finally retired it about 5yrs back. Like you said, nothing lasts anymore. Tried explaining the concept of quality to the kid when he was talking about needing another "disposable" phone.

Kirby for the win... Nothing like it on the market... You can buy a refurbished one for less than $400 on eBay and as long as you don't vacuum up water or something terrible like that, it'll be the last vacuum you ever buy.... And it comes with the hose deal and attachments as well as a light carpet shampooer...

If you want new, you've gotta go through one of those door to door folk... They'll want $2k but their cost is about $900 so you can usually get it for that...

Only issue with Kirby is you've got to get up on your power lifting to haul that beast up and down the stairs

Thank You for your input everyone. We bought a Kenmore pet friendly bagged canister vacuum model #81614. Consumer Reports Best Buy priced at $300. We paid $272 with tax at Sears thanks to my comedian friend. Time to go Suck up some stuff!

Been using mine 6+ years without issue... Love it.. Use it on the car, the mattresses, used it to suck up some spidermites from a house plant yesterday.. It's versatile and built to last... But it is a monster to drag around... If I had stairs I wouldn't have one...
