I'm on board... Crazy... Never ever ever in a million years did I think that would be the case... But I am...

I've heard a lot of arguments in favor and always argued adamantly against, but I'm swayed...

The Swiss seem to have it nailed... Street prostitution practically eliminated... Petty theft, car break ins, street level crime, all plummeting... And the Swiss are incredibly conservative... But they realized normal, rational, healthy individuals don't decide to use heroin... And if given the right resources, most heroin users will gladly quit...

I know this isn't the place for rational thought, but anyone who has experienced or has a loved one that's experienced addiction, this podcast will be enlightening...

But without prostitution how will I make my money, or spend it for that matter?

Yup, and the same for other drugs.

As for the, "Oh hell no!" folks, would you actually run out and buy heroin or other drugs if they were legal?

Our governor removed the felony and made it a misdemeanor for possession of her drugs.....it has not gotten better.

They need to offer free overdoses

Take the profit out of it, less crime. If someone is going to do hard drugs why stop them? If they die because of hard drugs that was on them.

O hell no! We don't want to make it too easy for our youth, 15 -18 yr olds, who may be tempted...imagine how much worse the opioid crisis would be...isn't heroin more addictive?

I'm pretty sure 15 to 18 year olds won't be allowed to purchase it.

but if it's legal to purchase, that'll make it much more accessible, like alcohol is readily available to and abused by that age group...

In Switzerland, the govt. manufactures clean, medical grade heroin...

Heroin addicts are registered with a health clinic...

They come in at 7 o'clock in the morning and are given whatever size dose they want, short of what would be lethal...

It is free for the addict... This is essential... This is what decreases crime and prostitution...

It is cheaper than incarceration or medical treatment...

After self injecting their daily dose on the premises - it cannot be taken from the premises - they go to work...

Work programs are provided and hiring incentives given to employers... This is essential, as keeping the addict working provides a sense of self worth, which is essential if the addict is going to quit, which is the ultimate goal...

At some point during the week - perhaps many points - the addict will attend counseling/therapy... Again essential, as few addicts became addicts because their life was going well...

After 5 years of this program, 70% if Switzerland voted to keep it...

We do offer free overdoses here, Narcan is given out all over the place for free and even inmates being released from prison are given it on their exit. Overdoses without consequences, who would have thought that would lead to a drug problem?
