back in 1991, a friend and I decided to create a guys weekend.
after searching for ideas we came up with a whitewater rafting trip, sent out invites, and named it Wild Man Weekend.
Bused up to Montreal from Boston Friday morning and rafted Rive Rouge Saturday. Had a freakin' blast. Other entertainment and meals also happened, also great. The gang immediately insisted we come up with something for the next year.
We considered all kinds of things, stuff like sky diving and other "wild" stuff. Somehow over the ensuing months the plan morphed into mountain golfing in one of the three northern New England states. We never deviated from that...but we have gone from Friday-Sunday to Thursday-Sunday while going from 3 included rounds to 4. Some play extra rounds in the afternoon on their own dime(s).
We also went from several individuals bringing and drinking a case of beer plus a fifth of whiskey/gin/vodka in the hotels rooms plus beers on the course and drinks at dinner to a much lower though still decent amount of alcohol consumption. This has also had the effect of lowering the insane incidents that occur, thus the name switch among the Council of Elders from Wild Man to Mild Man Weekend.
marijuana consumption has changed in nature over the years but remains steady.
