How old is your box of UCs? Back in 2015, DE was having cap issues with their MUWAT Bait Fish. Don’t know if other lines were affected but I avoided buying DE product from that point forward.

So I'd I have a cracked wrapper, will glue fix it or do I need to create a patch with a separate piece o wrapper - like fixing an inner tube?

Depends on the severity of the crack, where it is, etc.
Sometimes all the wrapper is still on the cigar, so you just sort of glue it down.
Other times there might be a larger chunk missing that you’ll need to patch in order to fix a leaky draw.
Cracks and rips near the foot aren’t a big deal, just fixit quick and light it up.
Any injuries near the head need careful attention and a good fix.

Then again, when a Gurkha explodes...............there’s no fixing that...

Where do you guys get the leaves for patches? Do you sacrificed a cheap smoke, is there a kit with different leaves? I know of sites that sell leaves etc so you can roll your own but with all the different wrappers in my boxes I wouldn't know where to begin. Then again I've been super lucky and only had a problem once. I cut about 1/2 inch off the foot and repaired a small but nasty crack caused by a punch. Didn't moisten like I usually do.

I was also surprised by all the different leaves from all over the world. African and middle eastern tobacco's I'd never heard of. Stuff from the Baltic states and India.... makes me wonder what I'm missing out on in the rest of the world.... or that maybe there's a reason I never heard of them. /shrug

Celt, it really depends on the damage. For just a crack, just put some glue so it sticks down to the binder. If you need a patch, you just use a sacraficial piece from another cigar. Unless you are doing quite a large patch, it ought not matter all that much what sort of leaf it is, but if you are super worried, grab the piece you normally cut off the head to use, or cut the cigar down half inch or so and use the wrap from the cutting.

I chew the heck out of my cigars. Don't need no stinking cap.

Use a punch. 🌫

I swear by it.
I got a can of it from Michaels craft store 2 or 3 years ago maybe more. Best I've used and the cheapest - once can and you'll NEVER need to buy more.
You could run a rolling factory floor with that can that's maybe 8 bucks. Keep the can in a zip lock and it will last until you're out, or still sit there after you're in your dirt nap feeding the worms.

I've given some bottles I mixed up to a few folks in with their smokes, they can validate once they've tried it.

Food grade cellulose, no sugar, no taste. Requires no special storage a sealed plastic container will do nicely.
Hot water, mix in a TINY bit of powder at a time. It will clump up, microwave for a few seconds keep mixing heating and add more hot water until the consistency is like fresh honey and completely clear.
If you get that consistency, glues down cracks, holds patches, re-glues bad seams, reattaches unraveled caps.
Squeeze bottle, dip your finger in a container, brush, toothpick however you want to put it on.
Use the right amount, don't soak it. Once it's holding doesn't have to be completely dry, you can seal down a soggy cap after you've already been smoking.

Yeah, it works well, WITH YOUR OWN CUTTER!

We used to have a guy at one of my local cigar lounges who would ask other patrons to borrow their cutter. He'd take it, then make out with the head of his cigar, slobbering all over it, then cut it, and hand the cutter back to its owner. Either that, or he'd slobber over the head, then use one of the shop's cutters.

We quickly learned to:

1. never lend him our cutters,
2. never ask to borrow his cutter, and
3. never use the shop cutter(s) ever again.

There's a reason that particular consistency works so well, it's because honey itself works great as a cigar glue, requires no prep (no mixing and microwaving), its lifespan is infinite (5000-year-old honey found in king Tut's tomb is still edible and fine) and it's dirt cheap compared to the tiny, exorbitantly-priced bottles of cigar glue that are often sold.

I use PerfecRepair cigar glue. No flavor and works great.

I bought a box of unflavored pectin (food grade cellulose?) from the Jell-o section of the grocery store a few years ago...keep it stored in a small ziplock....don't remember the brand...Knox?

mix a a small amount of the dry powder, maybe 1/4 teaspoon with a drop or two of water until it's blended into a thin paste.... dab on with a QTip or small hobby paint brush...let sit for 10-15 minutes...works great, doesn't affect the flavor of the cigar...


gonna try the honey, tho, to see if it works without altering the flavor of the cigar...if so, it would save the mixing step of powdered pectin....
