All receipts must be destroyed lest Mrs. Beach become aware of exactly how invested the household is in this wonderful pastime.

Better yet, figure out what unnecessary stuff she overspends on, then create a folder named something like, "WIFE RECEIPTS FOR JIMMY CHOO SHOES" or "WIFE RECEIPTS FOR PRADA STUFF".

It'll be deleted in no time! She'll solve the problem for you without even opening the folder to look at anything!

You've never met my mother. Believe me, I suspect even the worst case of jock itch is the lesser of two evils, and that is weighing it against the one that I know very well (mom...just so the gremlins here don't run any further with that).

Mrs. Mittens never gives me flak about how many cigars and accessories I buy. It's probably because she has never existed. 🇨🇮

I'm keeping a mental tally of her overspends and once it's around the cost of a Mustang, I'll balance the scales. No, cigars don't count against that total. That's part of my mental health fund

my wife and I have maintained separate savings, checking and credit card accounts from day one of our marriage...seems to have worked out well, since we celebrated our 39th anniversary this past June...we've never argued over money issues...we've both been fortunate to have steady employment until retirement, with pensions....she doesn't show me hers , so...

I'm kinda keeping score mentally: over the years, she's borrowed much more from me than I have borrowed from her to avoid a negative balance/overdraft fees, to fund a "needed" purchase, etc.

#4 A "modest collection of 600 to 1,000 cigars"? Damn it must be good to be king.

There’s levels........I decided, for me, 600 - 1000 allows me to always have well rested cigars to smoke.
I know guys with a few thousand....
Then there’s the real hardcore guys with 5-10k
And the mentally ill with 10k plus....

Topped for NDill since we don’t talk about cigars enough.

For NDill!!!

I only date cigars if I feel a real connection there.

Almost 3yrs later and:
- still don't have the Mustang
- have caved to tropical guilt and gotten all of my smokes dated, barring some hiding bastids
- believe/hope I'm still in the 1,000ish range. I have a bad feeling that's conservative

I still keep the spreadsheet.

Although I'm determined to smoke more than I buy, hasn't always worked. 🤦

Buying's entirely too quick and easy to keep that ratio balanced.

This will sound bad but since our HELCO is our only major monthly expenditure, there's more disposable income than when I was working...well, except for those 2-3 years when I was REALLY doing well at work, getting multiple shipments a week and didn't blink when I my AMEX statement arrived.

Back around the time I caved to your cigar dating pressure, I ran a rough total spent to that point.

Ain't never gonna run those numbers again. I blinked quite a bit that day

A few years ago I think it was DanM that looked up / totaled his CBid purchases and his surprise at how much he had spent so I did the same and was equally shocked. And that was just for here, let alone the other two, three other sites that I did regular business with.

I vowed never to run my numbers again either. 🤐

you can't take it with you...cash or cigars...

is there anybody in the world you want to spend all your disposable cash on, or who you'd like to see smoke all your cigars?

A few years ago when our kids were still at UNLV, my wife, her Mom and I would visit them. My MIL almost always picked up the tab whenever we ate or even went shopping. One night I grabbed the check and she looked straight at me and said, “Gimme that.” I declined. She then said, “Let me do this while I still can.” Ooh! Straight to the heart! I reluctantly give her the check but knew exactly what she meant. We still had a few more trips with her with and without our kids (…the youngest graduated in 2010…). I know she enjoyed them. Sadly, her short term memory deserted her about 3 years ago and it’s also physically hard for her to get around so we no longer travel anywhere with her.
