WEST GLACIER, Mont. – Glacier National Park is removing signs that state all glaciers will be melted by 2020.

Park spokeswoman Gina Kurzmen explained that since the early 2000s, scientists have reflected and analyzed data stating glaciers would recede by 2020.

Kurzmen told KPAX that the latest research shows shrinking, but in ways much more complex than what was predicted. Because of this, the park must update all signs around the park stating all glaciers will be melted by 2020.

The indoor and wayside exhibits have been updated throughout the park including at the Apgar, Logan Pass and St. Mary visitor centers, according to Kurzmen. She also told KPAX that an exterior panel at St. Mary still displays out-of-date language but is planned to be replaced later this year.

Kurzmen says Glacier National Park will work with the US Geological Survey to monitor the glaciers and update the remainder of the signs as necessary.

The 2017 study that began the removal of the signs due to the changing forecast indicated some of the ice formations lost 85% of their size but average shrinkage was only 39%. So I guess it’s ok.

I will say from personal experience their is a noticeable difference in Alaska from 5-6 years ago. My pictures show that as well.

Caused by humans or stoppable? I dunno. Happening? Yes.

Tittums the funny part is your vitriol is just as bad as the spaz on the other side of your pet issues. You are very similar to that which you despise. I still think most folks are reasonable and do not believe the with me or against me crap.

I do believe the glaciers are shrinking. Humans may or may not be a part of it. There are zealots that are sure they are and zealots that are sure they are not. To them it’s a game. To the rest of us maybe we can figure something out. Maybe not.

And eff the baby seals. I’d grind them and spotted owls up if it gave me a cheaper fuel alternative.
