Do you outside smokers like myself smoke less during the winter because of the conditions? I myself seem to go to cigar-friendly restaurants and bars more often to offset the cold conditions. I live in Texas so you yankees probably think it doesn't get cold here. I know our California friends don't have to worry about this subject...

I live in Southern California and it isn't that big a deal, however, when the rains hit I do smoke less! I am sure Rick smokes just as much summer, winter, etc! But I will let him speak for himself!

Actually, we Californians do struggle with this problem. I'll bet there are 2-3 evenings a year in which it is too cold to stay outside for anything longer than a robusto.

I lived in Tx for 7 years and unless you live in the panhandle it does not get cold but a couple of days a year. So quit your bellyaching or I will break out the steers and queers jokes LOL

Yes......I go from 1 or 2 a day in the summer to 1 or 2 a week this time of year.

I put a space heater under my ass here in the Corpus area. When it's really cold, I smoke in the garage.

Calif is not all the same ... I lived in SoCal before moving to the Bay Area and can tell you, there's a huge difference ... SF is described as a moderate climate, because there is such a small variation from mean temperature ... translated, summer or winter, the temps don't vary too much ... uncomfortably cold all year long ... at my home in the 'burbs, summer is a lot warmer in the daytime, but the evening fog sure puts a chill on things and even a 98deg day will be a 58deg evening ... and that drops down to high 40s this time of year. Not 18deg or 28deg I hear you say ?? ... no, it isn't, but it's not comfortable either ...

Funny thing, I was thinking about this very subject last night while smoking and pacing in the yard ... it kills the enjoyment and I tend to puff harder and quicker, so enjoyment is diminished even more ...

JR says he smokes in the garage ... I know SammyDaddy does too ... maybe what I need is a work project that transforms my crap-catcher garage into a smoking room ... that just might work

As luck would have it, since my better half grew up in a cigar smokers house (ISOM's I believe) I am permitted to smoke my Oliva O's and others* indoors. There are rules tho, 1 a day and nothing larger than a robusto. Today it was 35, sunny and no wind outside so I smoked a churchill and it was nice...

I live in Vegas, and believe it or not it gets into the 40;s at night this time of year. I used to live int eh Mid-West so I know that 40s is not brutal, but still cold enough to make an outside smoke uncomfortable. Anyway, I get dressed in sweats and a jacket and sit next to a space heater. Wool socks and slippers too. Listen, I am not giving up the smokes and I can much better justify to the Mrs. sitting in my back patio then I can justify driving to a local cigar bar.

You guys dissapoint me. Last night, 18 degrees, I was out in the garage with no heater enjoying a Bucanero El Capitan Maduro. And I can say I burned it to the fingertips.

Yeah, what Steve said. I use a heater in the garage some nights but mostly a sweatshirt does it. The main problem is that when it raining or the fog has rolled in I find the moisture in the air will cause uneven burn, swelling and cracking of the wrapper and difficult to keep lit (no, I'm not talking Lone Wolf). This happens mostly when I leave an unfinished smoke and then relight it later.
Side question, anyone have trouble with torch lighters in the cold or damp?

Sammy, I can't say that I have had a problem with my torch lighter in cold or damp. Then again, I live in Vegas where is is generally not real cold and definitely not damp.

I also live in the Bay Area (near Napa) and smoke less and smaller smokes in the late fall and winter. Right now nights when it isn't raining are in the low 40s or high 30s, later in the winter the temps will get down to the high 20s and low 30s when it is clear. Clear days are generally fine in the 50s and 60s. As a transplanted New Yorker, I know that's not really cold but I have been in CA 21 years and my blood has thinned.

If I leave my torch in the car for a while (chicago) it will not work rigth until it warms up.

Hey all! Here in Pennsylvania it gets a little chilly. However, can thank my job for my smoking time. I am an auto mechanic and smoke a stogie in the shop atleast once a day. I never have it in the customer cars and I can't sit and truly enjoy the smoke, but it is better then nothing! Also, I do sometimes have some troubles when my torch lighter is in the cold. It isn't too damp up here, so I doubt that has anything to do with it. Happy smoking!
