If you can't have Spanish cedar, mahogany is the next best choice.

Spanish cedar fines (veneers) are very cheap on Amazon. I buy them for my sistema tuperdores. But as for me, I’m fine with Mahogany as long as it is solid and not Mahogany veneer on Pine.

I got my cooler. It’s bigger than I thought. Which is good. I’d guess 40 ish quart. Much bigger than I imagined in my mind. Love it

Shelves inside stack You can move the organizers to make 3 different size areas inside each rack. Lid doesn’t have a seal but I don’t think I’ll add one. It shuts nice and tight. Like whoosh when you drop the lid vs slam. It’s more yeti style cooler like roto molded or whatever they call it. I might eliminate one of my cooler setups and use this. I’m digging it

Sounds pretty good/nice. You'll find out soon enough if it's leaky. I'm sure there are probably plenty of easy lid seal solutions if required

Got it. Was delivered 1 street over.
Like Jake said much bigger then I expected. The trays are solid wood, not ply. Should be easy to make up replacements in Spanish cedar but what I'll likely do is just make some dividers instead. The seal should be fine, but it's easily remedied with a bead of silicone or a bit of weatherstripping. For the $85 I paid it's a great buy. Would I pay full price? Not likely.

Just do the dollar bill test on each end of the four sides…….so 8 tests.
Weatherstripping instead of silicone imho, if needed.
I would also check the seal annually……….some plastic does weird chit.

The way theyve molded it should be pretty good as is. But yes some weather strip would easily seal it if needed

Are the trays like freestanding stacking or would they fall over if placed on top of eachother without walls to support them?

i.e. if the China manufacturer that made this for them starts selling those trays on aliexpress, can they go into any tote big enough to hold them and they won't slide off eachother when moving?

Sturdy stacking wood trays would be nice to have

Stacking trays in a cooler would be nice. I use these plastic basket rectangular trays that stack, and breathe, and fit perfectly, but…..
They’re plastic. A top layer of wood trays be cool…

Got a link to them? I don't care if it's wood or plastic as long as it stacks sturdy and keeps my cigars from getting tossed around when I'm digging for something.

They stack with a lip cut out all the way around. Will not slide around on top of each other.

Sorry Dan, can’t even remember where I got them, but pretty sure it was at a local store, like 10+ years ago or so.
Either Orchard Supply, Walmart or maybe Target?

If you search google or amazon, with
“Plastic storage trays, stackable, breathable”
You will see lots of options.

I prefer to keep them about 3 inches in height, max.
Length and width just depends on what you want/need.

Just wiped down all the wood to kick off seasoning. Couple of observations.
The seal is all but absent, will likely need weatherstripping. This will lead to the next observation. The clasps are crap and could use replacing as I'm not sure the have enough play to allow the weatherstripping.

I was wondering about that seal, or lack thereof.
Thought for sure they would have included a gasket of sorts.

Get some screen door stripping (usually thinner and not as wide) and center it on the lip, once you have verified that the lid comes down on the center of the lip!
Once you close the lid once, and latch it, I’m guessing you will be good to go.

Edit
Upon close examination of the unit, you might be better off putting the weather stripping on the lid.

Eveyrthing I find online is either stackable as in they fit inside eachother, not stack on top of eachother, or they're open front desktop filing bins. Can't find the thing I want. Looked at Walmart last time I was there and same thing. They either stack inside eachother or they stack the way I want, but have open fronts.
