Interesting, considering that cats surpassed dogs as the pet of choice in America quite a few years ago.

I like both dogs and cats, but cats are definitely more intelligent overall than dogs...Cigarick made some great points...Dogs are generally subservient and really aren't very bright (except for some choice breeds such as German Shepherds (which IMHO are the most intelligent breed...I grew up with them...Excellent dogs!)...Cats seem aloof and snobbish and seem more independent, but it's not correct...If the wif and I are in one room and we walk to another room, our cat (siamese) just HAS to be with us...She'll follow us anywhere we go in the house, she's very lovable, sleeps on me every day (I work mids) and (especially when she's hungry) climbs on my chest when I'm sitting or lying down on the couch and lays down on her side or her back in my arms and rubs her head into my face...If that's not lovable, I don't know what is....Dogs are also great but there's a lot of them that just aren't very smart (Old English Sheepdogs come to mind...Extremely stupid animals...I used to have a couple)...Whether you have a dog or cat, I believe that the key to having a great pet is how they are raised from a pup or kitten

I have two cats and a dog. They are completely different creatures. Dogs are clingy and needy, always hanging around desperately waiting for attention. Cats have things that they are doing, scheming and planning and such. They come into a room, see you, come over to say hi and hang for a while, then go back to their business. You pose a problem to a dog, their answer is to pounce on it, and hopefully solve it with drool. You pose a problem to a cat, you can see the cat think about it, work a couple of solutions, then execute the one that works. Make no mistake, I love my dog, but if I could train my cats to hunt pheasants, the dog would come down with a sudden case of fatal lead poisoning.

I'm sure your cats would LOVE an opportunity to hunt pheasant! Siamese are the best--more personality than any other three breeds together. In truth, I like dogs, too. Owned a couple over the years. They're great fun, especially because they are kind of dopey. Nothing funnier than tossing a handful of kibble across a tile floor and watching your dog try to take off in 20 directions at once! We lean toward cats because they're smaller, quieter, and cleaner. I just like to argue . . .
