If you are in a Union, and need to take a crap, Who wipes? And what if he's not available?

The absolute most unnecessary piece of Americana to exist today.

Not sure who would be the wiper, but according to most union rules, you would have to sit there and wait until the wiper became available to wipe. You couldn't do it yourself or just get up and walk away or you'd get a grievance filed against ya!

Don't know who it is, but he/she will make $25.00 per hour plus get 4 days sick leave after doing it.

You have to wait for your wiper, they're on break...

If I remember right it is the plant manager and if he isn't available the foreman may substitute , I hope this answer is helpful. JonR

Now if your Caught Wiping someone else's ass IE: "a Carpenter Appretice,doing Laborors work" then there will be Grievences filed and possibly a chance for a walk-out...

Remember gentlemen, these union contracts are negotiated. Don't negotiate a wimpy contract and come complaining to me about the consequences. I speak from experience as a member of management at a UAW facility. And thats all I'm gonna say about that.....lol.

I was simply reminded of my feelings towards unions recently by two similar events.
Thought I'd post a non-war discussion topic.

I was just reminded of Unions Today... the Wife Took our 2002 Ford Extended Cab in for the Oil Change and them to fix the minor air leak around the door, also the back sliding glass trim anytime the window is opened the trim piece falls down... the guy was working on the Truck, Oil Change Tire Rotation, etc. etc. then the Wife waiting Patiently... finally a few hours pass so she goes and asks what the hold up was? was there a problem? Well the guy tells her... the Guy that was working on the Window Cut his Finger off, And they did not have anyone else to do the Job so she would have to come back on this one... also the door trim wasn't ordered and they didn't have any in stock.. So they were going to have to order that also... so they would give her a call when the part comes in and they can get to it... we also was going to have them look at the Transmission because the On the Fly!!!!! Fords Big 4X4 on the Fly Promotional Ease they Brag about.. Didn't work right.. the guy tells her well the truck would be down for some time while they pull the Transmission and have a look see!!!! But we cannot give you another Vehical even though your Covered Bumper to Bumper with that Beafed up extra $1700.00 bumper to bumper coverage crap they feed you when you Purchase... but this time its no deal...
So a different date on that one... I told her... Take that F**Kin Truck Back out there and Park it on their showroom floor and tell them their Warrentee is Voided!!!!!!! $37,000.00 Headache with no Coverage even when you Paid for it... it's a good damn thing I didn't take the Truck In... I would be sitting in County Still and there'd be a few Wounded Mechanics!!!!

And Another thing On Unions... I've got 9 yrs Carpenters under my Belt...16 yrs total... held my card and then went full time into another line of work... Because I did not bank enough Hours back in 1997 for the year.. I get a letter from Genieva... Saying I have Forfieted (sp) My Pension... I had roughly $9,000.00 vested... and I just Forfieted it? I fought the SOB's at the Hall and at the Top... I got my Pension Reinstated/Froze and I can walk back in pay up my Due's and go to work tomorrow somewhere if I wanted to... LMAO!!!! what I know for a fact... I can work anyways anywhere I want to tomorrow and their ain't a damn thing they or anyone can say about it... Scab?? LMAO!!!! Nope I put food on my Table and I don't have to hear... That Ain't my Job!!!!

Do Unions Work... Yes they Do... it's some of the Lazy SOB's who twist the Rights of the Contracts that F**Ks Fellow Workers!!!!! and that doesn't have to be Union Labled to see that Happen!!!!!!

There are indeed many high class folks who work for the unions.
But the "not my job" mentality is not only born from the unions, but also is a REAL detriment to productivity. Common sense takes a back seat to "regulations".
Yes, you could give examples of this in the non-union world, but it is accepted as gospel within the union ranks.

Unions simply are not necessary. Not in America 2003.

I have done my best to stay out of this union arguement, and so far I have..... BUT.
I live in a "Right to work state" translates to right to get screwed by the boss state. In my area, it is common for carpenters who have 20+years of experience to make between $8-12 dollars an hour. Tool and die machinists who make $10-12 dollars an hour, and the Union grocery store clerk at Krogers, one of the few unions that hasn't left the state, makes $14.80 an hour to trim lettuce, with 10 years experience. We need unions.

It's worth what it pays. I would retrain if the field of endeavor is not supporting my lifestyle. Why should we pay more than the fair market should bear? What if people all of a sudden said, we’re not making enough on light bulbs, and all the light bulb manufactures and marketers got together and formed the bright idea union, and said, ok, no more light bulbs for less than 10 bux per. And no imports because our lobby got stiff import taxes put on them. We need to send our kids to school and we can’t do that on 50 cents a bulb…

Falsely raising the pay scale for an entire industry hurts the economy.
It's collusion, which is illegal at most other levels of business.
But Unions are more evil than that. Not only do they falsely raise the pay scale, but the use their "muscle" to prevent non union companies from bidding on jobs. Free market?? I think not. It goes against everything that capitalism stands for.

Without Unions, a lot of top people will take advantage of cheap labor. Which means some people will lose out their jobs to those that will work for dirt cheap, and there is a lot of them out there. BUT, I do believe some Unions do cause a high pay, low effort environment, which causes high spending on poor good and services.

Where I work, union fees are taken out of my paycheck automatically which I disagree with, but the option of joining the union is up to the employee. That's where I have a problem with the Union. They claim that they protect you against the higher ups, but the union is the same. Once the Union acquires power, they will also weild it too, sometimes giving the employee no option but to follow the union. I see so many people who do crap work and are lazy, but they are protected by the union. But my job is protected too so I can't complain too much.

Its a very hard question, pro and cons everywhere. I just hope they figure something better out.
