My solution would be charter schools. If kids don't perform or attend, kick them out to the public school system.
Our district has what they call the alternative school. This is a campus for those with disciplinary issues They get the attention they need and remove them from those who are willing to act right.
Kids need to learn there are consequences for action, or rewards. I think that lesson has been lost.
That's because they give EVERYONE a Blue Ribbon just for "participating" nowadays.............Kids never learn that there are "winners and losers" at everything. If you don't win the game,no matter what that "game" might be, you lose and do not get a ribbon.
Next time prepare more and work harder and you may get the prize for being the best. The way things are now, kids are happy to settle for 2nd best because, "Hey I got a Trophy or Ribbon"...........
