No luck? Looks like you had better luck than me, xrun! I've shot one doe this season. 'Course I don't get out much. Going to pick up the processed meat tomorrow. My daughters have been bugging me about bringing home the deer jerky!

I must clarify: this is last years buck. I had no luck this year. This is in my nephew's garage in Wis. where we butcher. Cold as a meat locker. I have found that the cigars often unwravel after lighting in sub freezing temps. I would have stuck one in my kisser but the pic was taken before I discovered C-bid. Yes the apples are for baiting. It was legal last year and Jeff skewered a few deer on his property. No bait this year but he has still got a couple. Sets up his stand a couple hundred yards from the house. I on the other hand, travel over 1000 miles for a few days shooting. And it is worth it!

Cliff, I'm not trying to start something here, but are you sure your kids are referring to the flavored dry-cured meat?
dh, that part is furthest from the antlers...

Actually, they used to ask for the "reindeer jerky". It took me a while to convince them I wasn't shooting something that could have been used to guide Santa's sleigh.

I tried hunting pheasant with a friend and didnt have any luck.It was my 1st time hunting. I shot a jack rabbit while we were out there. I didnt like the feeling of killing an animal. Also I didnt expect that feeling. I dont criticize you at all. But were you brought up hunting? I dont know why it bothered me so much, but I never hunted again. I own many guns and had them long before my experience hunting. I mostly go to firing ranges. Just curious.

Yes,I come from a long line of hunters. My brothers and nephew are much more serious about it than I am. Or rather they spend a lot more time on it. I have no problem killing deer because I am very serious about eating venison. Best tasting best for you meat there is. I will not kill something I won't eat. It's wasteful and weakens a man's character. Killing a perdator to protect livestock or family is an exception.
