Diamond Crown is an elusive, hard-to-find commodity that, when it is available, only commands top dollar. Although many complain that supply is artificially limited to maintain the perception of rarity, Diamond Crown is nonetheless considered one of the finer cigars on the market. Made by the Fuente family, this cigar is smooth, consistent, rich, very flavorful, full-bodied. Each size in the Diamond Crown line is made with a 54 ring gauge. This larger ring allows for the blending of up to seven individual tobacco leaves, as only such a complex blend can assure maximum flavor.
What is most bally-hooed about this cigar is the wrapper, referred to as a Connecticut Fermented Wrapper (CFW). Unlike most other wrappers - hung in barns, dried, and bulked for a single fermentation prior to being packed in bales and eventually rolled into cigars - Diamond Crown’s CFW wrapper goes through a second fermentation. Specially fermented five year old wrapper leaves are unpacked from the bale and then conditioned and graded. The silkiest, smoothest leaves are then selected and placed in bulks for a second fermentation. It is this second curing that smooths, evens and develops the astoundnig color and feel of the wrapper and accounts for much of the cigar’s sweet, smooth, rich flavor.
