When we picked (or were assigned) musical instruments way back in elementary school...why was it so uncool for guys to play flute? If a guy chose flute, he'd have been ridiculed mercilessly. But, looking back, I sorta wish I'd learned to play. I chose percussion because it seemed cool....and stayed with it because I never had to really learn to read music. (If I was playing vibes or xylo, or tubular bells, etc. I would just take the time to work it out and memorize the parts so I wouldn't have to learn to play/read on the fly.)

Lately, I've been cycling through a bunch of classic rock and am amazed at how many truly great songs feature flute. I'd love to be able to play the opening from Can't You See....or, some of the flute lines in Freedom Rider...makes the hair stand up on the back of my neck....

No Jethro Tull lately, but I'll spin up Aqualung in next few days....

Recently:
Traffic - John Barleycorn Must Die ...esp Freedom Rider
War - Anthology -- esp Spill the Wine...(stood up on a mountaintop!...)
Canned Heat - Going up the Country
Rare Earth - I guess nobody ever told those guys they were white
Marshal Tucker - any/all....esp....Can't You See...Take the Highway...Heard it in a Love Song
Guess Who - Undun

Any good rock fluatists I'm missing?

as far as Jethro Tull/Ian Anderson, I would suggest the earlier (earliest?) two albums as I lost interest in their aggressive growth after the first three...just my feelings. The two below had more jazz incorporation than later mega produced efforts.

This Was and Stand Up.

Also, Flute Thing from ages ago, I may be wrong but I believe this cult classic was played by Andy Kulberg with Blues Project (yet another place with Al Kooper's fingerprints all over it).

Bummers about your week (...or are you just paraphrasing from "The Big Lebowski"?...) but I happen to love the early Eagles. First 3 albums were great, mixed feelings about "One of These Nights" and lost interest when Bernie Leadon left and Joe Walsh was added.

Tomorrow I'll play some Beach Boys instead....

I think she likes me, that's what I think...

OK, I thought I was the only one with any Treat Her Right albums! As you probably know, they morphed into Morphine.

I went to jr high and high school with frontman Marc Sandman who died years ago on stage, I believe in Germany on New Years Eve maybe? Nice kid, no one had any clue he had that musical future ahead of him. Real stripped down low fi style.

Steely Dan - Showbiz Kids: The Steely Dan Story (1972 - 1980)

Saw them on their initial tour, they opened up for Jesse Colin Young...should have been the other way around.

74 F / 71% RH / 9 mph with gusts up to 11 - mostly good in town today, wife said it was rainy on our side of the island.

One of my FAVS !

Elvin Bishop
"Raisin' Hell - Live"
Definitely would be one of my "deserted island" albums.

Elvin sho knows how to play guitar, and Mickey Thomas, (of Jefferson Airplane/Starship fame), does some unbelievable vocals!
(Especially on the Sam Cooke medley)

I saw Steely Dan in 2014.......they are still fantastic.....what really amazed me is this 14 year old kid sitting in front of us ,he was dancing to every song and he knew the lyrics to every tune they played. Nice to see some kids are still being exposed to and are able to appreciate real music.....by real I mean not computer generated or autotune enhanced,or lip syncced
