Obama has just promised to seek an extra $200 million in aid to help Jordan cope with a flood of refugees from Syria that King Abdullah II said is straining his country’s economy and risks destabilizing the region.

So much for our sequestration priorities...Brick wall

And more sequester spending....

The United States has quietly unblocked almost $500 million in aid to the Palestinian Authority which had been frozen by Congress for months, a top US official said Friday. The news that the funds had finally been freed up came after US President Barack Obama met top Israeli and Palestinian leaders in a landmark visit to Israel and the West Bank earlier this week
.
"To date, we have moved $295.7 million in fiscal year 2012 money… and $200 million in fiscal year 2013 assistance," State Department spokeswoman Victoria Nuland told reporters.

The Obama administration also notified Congress in late February that it was seeking a further $200 million to fund US Agency for International Development (USAID) programs for the Palestinians, she said.

But what about the bill that requires airlines to pay millions if passengers are force to sit on an airplane more than 3 hours because of gate & ramp congestion due to air traffic & weather delays that was just passed 2 years ago under this administration? Damn this guy is law passing & executive order happy. 2 million pages of new laws. Nancy Pelosi must be wetting her pants with all the, "we have to pass it before we read it" laws coming down the pike in flood-like order these days . . .

On the local news last night they ran a story stating that the FAA including Air traffic controllers is running on the same amount of employees as they had in 2008. Only difference is, MORE senior level officials.

Sorry you're wrapped in it. Is your boss or your bosses boss? The management that manages you but cannot do your job? Just wondering.

On a sidenote...saw two jets take off on both runways yesterday in Tampa...big airliners...going the same direction with only a runway between them...what's that about a mile? It made the entire highway lock up.

Our airport is "International". We have one gate. Three ticket booths. And one car rental place (which I've never seen open). Two TSA workers.

I have no clue and was actually asking, as most of thr woe is me gov't worker shtick I hear rings hollow to me when the whole picture is there. Not to say gov't workers don't work hard or are evil, but the examples we all see that fit our preconceptions are what we generally accept. I am open to seeing things outside my preconceptions.

Is this a PERS situation? Is this a 401K of some sort? I dunno TW please do tell.

Dip$hit. What federal employee has FREE healthcare. Citation please.

I'm sick of all the pleasantries.

Look it up your freaking self.

Seriously. The ignorance is getting so painful it's exactly why I have pretty much given up on this board.

I'm not defending government spending, Obama is a freaking TURD.

Federal employees have remained at the same level for basicaly the last 20 years (number of employees). Lower skill jobs pay slightly more than the civilian counterparts while higher skill jobs and higher education level (masters/PhD) get paid less than civilian counterparts.

But screw it. Bang your hands on the keyboard and post some stupid emoticons. It will give you all more credibility.

Government has the absolute role in regulating the airspace above the US. "Entrenched in the air travel business" is just a catch phrase.

But if you have never worked for them directly then you have no idea. Contractors do not count.

As far as the distance of the runways, they are 4301 feet apart at the centerlines. That distance allows simultaneous departures providing the initial departure headings are 15 degrees apart. It's not the normal at TPA, but not illegal or unsafe at all.

More lies.... Well except for the Parliment of Whores comment.

Even if it were true. Those airplanes have to be routed from coast to coast with those air traffic controllers working sectors that are normally split by themselves. The delays are due to safety concerns. Those safety issues can be managed by controlling the flow of aircraft before they even depart.

It is complicated, but what I can assure you is the controllers are usually willing (to a fault) to accept challenges (think double the airplanes) because we think we can handle it. It is the downfall of many.

I find it amusing that the first place where sequestration becomes a crisis is air travel. Air travel affects what portion of the population?

More importantly...air travel affects which portion of the population? The wealthy. The upper class. The frequent business travelers. The campaign donors.

Now it appears congress has a fix rushed through to solve this disaster of inconvenience.

As for the peasants affected by sequestration, eat cake.

Ok, so the Obahhhhma admin is inept (gasp)? So some Government workers select their preferred health coverages at discounted rates, & some are indulged while others are overworked and underpaid...(double & triple gasp as I dive for asthma inhaler). Any other insights, oh great Gringococonut?

Besides pimpin', playing soldier, and staring at an FAA monitor for hours on end as rhoids howl, I wonder what cbid's own Billy Bob Thornton has done in the PRIVATE sector?

I agree with Gene in his assessment that the traffic controllers' situation (shortage) was manipulated in order to punish the tax payer at the expense of sequestration proponents.

I also agree with ZRX in that Government workers should eat more ****** if they think they have it bad.

Knowing what a ‘Gringo’ is, I became curious about the name ‘Cocolo’. Here is what I found on my internets;

1. Cocolo is a slang term common in the Spanish-speaking Caribbean used sometimes to refer to non-Hispanic African descendants. It is also a term used to refer to people from Anglophone and Francophone Caribbean in Spanish-speaking countries and the Cocolos of San Pedro de Macoris, Puerto Plata and the Samana Peninsula in the Dominican Republic.

2. Cocolo is a medical device prosthetic that provides a means for the collection of waste from a surgically diverted biological system (colon, ileum, urinary) and the creation of a stoma. Pouching systems are most commonly associated with colostomies, ileostomies, and urostomies

3. Cocolo is a bohemian word meaning “to eat fat”.

****** eatin all around!

the worst thing about workers unions I've seen (maybe not the worst, but up there) is the whiney pointing of the finger and accusing someone of having things unfairly better than another. worker A points at worker B and complains that worker B has a bigger or better work space than worker A. Worker A never ends up with a bigger or better work space but Worker B will likely end up with a smaller or worse work space. Worker A benefits in no way, but somehow it makes them feel better. Facts and reason are usually not in the mix. Effin union mentality.

Anyone that knows the guy knows when he does log on here...he's shooting from the hip and as a Marine...he's a dead shot. He's in a bad spot and I feel for the guy, but step away and look at the entire situation...The President set this whole ball of wax up. Now that the chickens have come home to roost they don't look so good. They lost their shine. People don't trust this guy further than they can spit and he's already been declared a "lame duck". Already. He's been the worst President this nation has ever had and that's saying a lot! He's made Jimmy Carter look like a world class politician and leader.

This issue with Air Traffic Controllers is a bad game. Instead of deferring his management...the fat cats that can't do his job...they don't. They'd rather layoff the workers than the managers. It's not a simple union/non-union, govt./non-govt. worker problem.

Congratulations to the FAA...they played the game perfectly and won. Other government agencies need to take notice.

A bill that would end the Federal Aviation Administration’s furlough on air traffic controllers is now on its way to President Obama to sign.

On Friday, the House passed the measure 361-41.

On Thursday night, the Senate passed the legislation after most lawmakers had left the Capitol for a weeklong vacation.

Earlier this week, lawmakers from both parties urged the Obama administration to postpone or cancel the furlough of air traffic controllers, with some accusing the FAA of playing politics as the cuts contributed to massive delays at airports across the country.

The furloughs went into effect Sunday, and the impact was felt almost immediately.

You probably should not believe everything you read on the internet.

Cocolo is a term that Puerto Ricans use to describe a person that listens to salsa music, and dresses a certain way. Kind of like a "rocker" type term from the 80's.

The term started in the 70's when most of the salsa singers (also known as soneros or salseros) were black cuban/puerto ricans.

I was first called "cocolo" around 1989. Because I was a white guy that loved salsa music. The term has changed meanings over the years, but mostly within the slang of different ethnic groups. Some Mexican dialects for example, use the term closer to the "N" word.

It's a play on words, literally a white guy that likes salsa music. But believe what you want.

What is funny is that these lawmakers are so out of touch that they think ending the furloughs today will give them no flight delays tomorrow.

It will take one to two weeks to get our schedules back on track and to normal staffing levels.

No I'm not going to explain why, it just will.

Just to clarify, I work for the FAA. I am not the FAA, but they did play the card. What I also will say is that ther was no "job action" or intentional slowdown on the part of air traffic control.
