Love me some RRSB. I got the 6 yr rye and the 10 yr now, too.

I can't recall if I had the EC toasted barrel. Their barrel proof was just too damn hot for me. Dash of ginger beer and ooooh buddy it sneaks up on ya!

The toasted barrel is only 94 proof and is a really nice sipper. The barrel proofs are a little hot for me also but that is where a few drops of water or small ice cube come into play.

Maker's Mark Cask Strength
111 Proof

Even with a large ice sphere it seemed much more spicy than I remembered. May cross it off the replenish list.

Had another double pour of that RR 6 yr rye. Damn tasty.

Got myself a "bar cart" and loaded all my booze onto it. Momma was complaining that the booze was taking up all her shelf space.*

*We have a LOT of shelf space.

Went to the base to get a haircut and stopped in the Exchange to see what they had.

Russell's Reserve 6 Year Rye - Check $38 (cheaper at Walmart, but they were out)

Found a bottle of Russell's Reserve Single Barrel RYE, which I had never seen before or even heard of - Check $69

Not sure how the math worked out... but I paid $104 at the register. Musta been a discount on one of them.

The Single Barrel Rye is NOT as good as the 6 year rye. That's just my opinion... but the SB is twice as much as the 6 yr, so I will NOT be buying it again.

You've been warned.

MACS, do you get a lot of variation between bottles of the same single barrel over time or is it usually pretty consistent?

The Russell's Reserve Single Barrel (regular, not rye) has been pretty consistent for me. This was the first time I tried the single barrell rye.

I can always find it in Total Wine, but it's $72 there... and $52 in the Navy Exchange. Oddly the Walmart's here have liquor stores and they're usually pretty well stocked with decent stuff.

Sam's Club had Four Roses Single Barrell for $31 the other day, so I grabbed one... everywhere else it was $40+, even Costco.
