Yeah... no one's ever heard of Lincoln.

Seriously drafter... you're missing a HUGE contextual issue.

If a politician is unknown, then it doesn't matter whether a party is incorrectly getting "credit" for him.
If a politician is well known, and well liked, then the only people who are going to mistakenly give the wrong party "credit" are ones which are too stupid to know better.
And even more important, if a politician is getting monuments and plaques, odds are they're dead and whatever great thing they did was long enough ago that there isn't any "gain" to one party or another claiming him.

Seriously... you're 100 years too late to fight a battle over credit for an action 150 years ago.

You mean battle hymn of the Democrats.

I saw it on a plaque at a 4th rate university in the midwest.

I bet you Lincoln would have a primary problem at this point in the Republican Party.

But it isn't wrong within the context of the original plaque. The term "democrat" has two meanings, the plaque is clearly referencing the primary meaning: "an advocate or supporter of democracy".

If you have a problem with it, change the Republican party name to something with another meaning.

This is a whole lot of noise about absolutely nothing.

So by that stretch we can also describe Obama as a 'republican' then...

adjective
1.
of, pertaining to, or of the nature of a republic.
2.
favoring a republic.
3.
fitting or appropriate for the citizen of a republic: a very republican notion.

noun
5.
a person who favors a republican form of government.

As an avowed Socialist, Obama doesn't believe in any of that crap of course, but it makes for good spin.

To bring this into context...

What about literature?

I'm sure there are a number of famous political letters and books, required reading in many schools, which use the word "democrat", or "gay" or even "f$g" with definitions outside of the current mainstream usage. Do we need to change all of them?

Answer to your question......YES. Give it time, using your preferred " contextual caca " to back me up.....eventually any " perceived offensive remarks " will indeed bring about change to ALL meanings in our English language!!

That being said....I have NO idea why I bother to comment on Anything that Mr. contextual says....
