5 highlights from State Dept. IG report

Server ‘Attacked’

In January 2011, a “non-Departmental advisor to President Clinton who provided technical support to the Clinton email system” warned a Hillary Clinton staffer he had to shut down her private server over concerns “someone was trying to hack us.” The adviser said the attack failed but he nevertheless closed the server because he “didn’t want to let them have the chance to.” Later that day, the adviser again wrote to say: “We were attacked again. So I shut down [the server] for a few min.”

Clinton’s Case Was Unique

Clinton “did not use a department email account and has acknowledged using an email account maintained on a private server for official business,” the report said. While there were many examples of staff using personal accounts for official business, the IG could only find three cases where officials used non-department accounts “on an exclusive basis for day-to-day operations”: former Secretary of State Colin Powell, former Ambassador to Kenya Jonathan Scott Gration and Clinton.

No Interview With Clinton

Clinton declined an office of inspector general request for an interview. According to the report, “OIG interviewed Secretary Kerry and former Secretaries Albright, Powell, and Rice. Through her counsel, Secretary Clinton declined OIG’s request for an interview.”

Aides Told to Keep Quiet

The department over several administrations “issued numerous warnings about cybersecurity risks” related to email use. During Clinton’s tenure, warnings apparently were ignored. The report said two staffers said they discussed their concerns in 2010 with officials, but were told Clinton’s personal system had been approved “and the matter was not to be discussed any further.” One staffer said a top official with Information Resource Management “instructed the staff never to speak of the Secretary’s personal email system again.”

Clinton Assured, She ‘Gets It’

In March 2009, after unsuccessful efforts to supply Clinton with a secure government smartphone, the department sent a classified memorandum to Clinton’s chief of staff warning about the security vulnerabilities associated with Clinton using a BlackBerry and that the device was prohibited in sensitive areas. Clinton responded by saying she “gets it.”

I wonder what O'Blunders State Department has planned next.

She should be fined $50,000, sentenced to serve two years of probation and 100 hours of community service, and stripped of her security clearance for 3 years. That seems to be the going rate.

Obama will pardon her. Or more ironically she will pardon herself if elected. Another slap in the People's face. They really do think we are stupid.

She shouldn't have even been allowed to run for office. But the DNC had to maintain their promise to always support her after the whole "Monica" situation.

The narrative now is the People should concern themselves with choosing a president who can do the most for them, not about what Email security laws or other scandals they have in their past. All of that history we are told is irrelevant.

HILLARY’S EMAIL LINE CRUMBLES

It was okay and everyone else was doing it, Hillary Clinton’s often repeated defense of her private email set-up, has a problem. And a State Department audit seems to agree.

In true Clintonian fashion her campaign is sticking with that defense in rebutting a State Department watchdog group’s audit released Wednesday that said the former secretary “did not comply with the Department’s policies” in using a private server. The audit also said that had the Department known about the server they would not have given its blessing because of “security risks in doing so.”

Whether or not security was compromised remains to be seen. Clinton’s FAQ’s page claims there wasn’t a breach, but the hacker known as “Guccifer,” who was indicted on Wednesday for other identity theft charges, claims he did access Clinton’s private server, though he has refused to provide evidence of such a hack. The State Department audit did not find specific evidence of a breach, but notes that the Clintons’ outside I.T. consultant twice shut down her home-based server because he feared that someone was trying to hack the system.

While a separate FBI investigation continues to loom over Clinton, the fallout from the report is likely to send Clinton’s already poor numbers on honesty and trustworthiness down even further as she fights a two-front war with Donald Trump and Democratic challenger Bernie Sanders.

The audit’s findings play right into Trump’s repeated characterization of “Crooked Hillary” and makes Sanders’ backers even more infuriated with her in a nominating process they already feel is corrupt.

All the while, Clinton has continued to cast a narrative of the scandal as a Republican witch hunt designed to cast her candidacy in a bad light. As WaPo’s Chris Cillizza points out, “That’s a very hard story to sell, given that the current inspector general was appointed by President Obama.”

With editorials using terms like, “inexcusable,” and phrases like, “proof of her deceptions,” hitting the presses, how long the Clinton camp can maintain her current line of defense is questionable.

Short of an indictment this is about as bad as things have yet to get in Hillaryland. And though few are questioning her security of the nomination, how she maneuvers her way out of this will be very telling of the general election back-and-forth yet to come.

A strong majority of Democratic voters think Hillary Clinton should keep running for president even if she is charged with a felony in connection with her private email use while secretary of state, according to a new poll.

Clinton was strongly criticized in a State Department inspector general report last week about her email use.

The report found repeated warnings about cybersecurity were ignored and staffers who expressed concerns were told “never to speak of the Secretary’s personal email system again.”

Yet, this seems not to be a big issue among Democrats. The Rasmussen poll released Tuesday found 71 percent of Democratic voters believe she should keep running even if indicted, a view shared by only 30 percent of Republicans and 46 percent of unaffiliated voters. Overall, 50 percent of those polled said she should keep running.

The FBI investigation into her email practices is still ongoing. Democratic primary rival Bernie Sanders has avoided commenting specifically on that probe, but campaign manager Jeff Weaver on Wednesday questioned whether she could keep going if an indictment comes down.

"That would be difficult to continue running a race," Weaver told Fox News on Wednesday, when asked about the poll.

The email scandal could still be problematic for Clinton's general election hopes, with 40 percent of all voters saying they are less likely to vote for Clinton because of it -- though 48 percent of voters said it would have no impact on their vote.

The Democratic primary frontrunner’s argument that she did nothing illegal with her email use is also apparently failing to sway many voters. According to the poll, 65 percent of voters consider it likely that Clinton broke the law with her email use, with 47 percent saying it’s very likely.

So, us democrats don't care about the hype and continuing opinion peices because we know it's crap.

But just like Bill Clinton's BJ or Obama's birthcirtificate the right will regularly whip this into a pretend issue - because it sells better than talking about the issues. Especially in the light of their candidates endless string of lawsuits, bankruptcies, and fraud.

You guys know Trump backed Clinton, right? And he said the economy does better under Democrates (He was just speaking the truth to throw us off). And Fox really don't mention that, do they?

You guys have your fun. Protect us agents the evil Secretary of State.
