Joke man, relax... fat was part of the narrative... cross-fit... meh, never mind.

Just for the record, I would take you up on a burger or a donut, and if I was in your home, I would even go through the motions and pray with you if that was your custom.

Also, the only way religion (or lack there of) would come up is if you brought it up... I rarely talk religion and politics, but I do here because this is the forum I choose to participate in.

Americans who believe in the separation of church and state. Believe or not, even some Christians know that a govmut shouldn't back a particular faith.

So you would go along with excerpts of the Quran being on courthouse walls?
Ok to read the Torah to school kids?
How 'bout a pentagram on the $1 bill.....

I don't remember learning much about islam in school but we did learn a lot about the bible (which I'm sure isn't happening much if at all today). Since Judiasm, Christianity and Islam have so much in common and are indeed interrelated it doesn't matter much to me though. The differences are not as great as some would have you beleive. A christian is a chapter or two away from being a muslim. Jews on the other hand are buffered by an additional chapter or two.

Yeah, well this country was founded on the separation of church and state for all manner of good reasons. To me, it is very un-American to ignore these principals. We all should enjoy the freedom to worship in the manner of our choice, free from other religions being pushed on us.

People seem to think it's ok if it happens to be their region that is on the courthouse walls - but it ain't.

I'm more worried about mormans. they sort of freak me out and they keep records on all of us. I can't help but think they aren't messing around with the penny ante small time atrocity... i think they just might take out all the undesireables in one fell swoop some day. They ran their mancurian candidate last year but will likely retool and run another.

The most interesting thing about this statement is how adamantly nearly all Jews, Christians, and Muslims disagree with it...

Yup. I agree. Strange isn't it? But not unpredictable.... sort of like shiites and sunnis or catholics and protestants (and everyone else).

Bushism (not going to fix it because I find it funny) has a lot in common with the lot too. One of my favorite books is living buddah living christ. Easy and fascinating read drawing comparison and similarity between budhism and christianity. The same can be done with islam... and yet that does not mean there are no big differences. (like catholic girls give head while muslims take heads)

not even sure where to go with this silly assertion
although i hear similar things from the media and "religious" folks frequently
i mean it sounds really nice and fits the post modern, humanistic campaign

however, for starters, Jesus' divinity is discussed in quite a few more than "a chapter or two"

go tell a muslim that you believe Jesus is God and that they are similar and let me know how it goes
afterall, its pretty close

dude lighten up. do you really think I was serious with the chapter or two? post modern humanistic campaign? really? LOL

I have frequent conversations with jews, muslims etc as part of our interfaith group where we joke about the whole chapter thing,,,, like you just must have skipped that chapter etc. Sort of like Frank's prequel. As for telling a muslim I think Jesus is god... and the similarity (and differences) ofour religions, I do that about once a month.... so what am I supposed to be looking for?

religion can blind or can improve sight.

I think jesus, the son of god, IS actually god, the son of god, and the holy ghost. I hope you are ok with that since you presumably dont.

I think it's ok telling you that since you are just a jew and stuff... those muslim animals can't handle that, but the jews can. (and since im an internet weekend crusader its safe either way.

who me?

I sure am OK with that, as a Jew and as an American.

Pretty sure my Tribe gave everyone those same Ten Commandments you saw at the Court House (read about it in one of those couple of chapters in The Prequel)...though I don't believe they or other religious related stuff belongs on public buildings or land either, despite it being far from offensive to my belief system/religion. That's the American part of me.

That said, I do like the way that Christmas stuff looks all over town so never felt the need to stop y'all...but I understand those who would vehemently oppose it's practice. Guess I am not wildly worried about the Separation thing, until i am told I am wrong in my choice. that really pizzes me off! Wonder if I can get a tax rebate? Hmmm.

But it is important to remember...I am like a idiot.

I was joking about the literalness of the chapter or two peice but not about the similarity of our religions. It is one of the primary focuses of out interfaith groups. we share many of the same characters but assign different lables to them. From my experiences Muslims don't hate the baby jesus.

Tail, nobody has atheists ringing their door bell or asking for donations. They don't have 12 different TV networks on TV, hell they don't even seem to exist.

Btw - Agnosticism is actually a philosophical belief. So it's not a religion...

philosophical belief. Fine by me. You have a point, or you just trying to be correct for once?

As for the ringing of the bell, who gives a sh*t?
That's the Jehovahs, not your typical mainstream Christians.

It's the atheists who want to feel offended for everyone. They're the ones who demand the town square remove the Nativity scene. they're the ones who cry foul if a teacher uses the "C" word for the "winter holiday" break. They're the one's worrying that a bible might be found in a state owned court room.

And the funny part? If they truly believed that gawd doesn't exist, none of this would actually offend them. As a group they're nothing but thin skinned hypocrites who cower from things they don't understand.

But a level-headed atheist is actually an agnostic in denial.
Because as I learned earlier in this thread, that's their true philosophical belief...

Weak.

If we grew up with those things we'd understand that America is what it is.
Because of those things.
Or Despite those things.

It truly wouldn't matter.

Not aiming this at anyone specifically, just my .02

To understand the Atheist you have to remember what it was like to be afraid of the Boogy monster when you were a child.
You were afraid because you thought he might actually exist, as you grew up you realized he didnt exist, so you no longer felt threatened by him. I am not afraid of the Quran, I am not afraid of the New testament, I am not afraid of Burkas or Christmas trees.

Did you know that their are a few thousand Moslem soldiers in the Israeli Army? When they are inducted they swear allegiance to and promise to defend the State of Israel on a Quran!

Anyone who is secure their beliefs should not feel threatened by anyone elses customs or beliefs, whether it be a tree, menorah, or burka as long are not causing any harm to you.
As Americans we pledge allegiance to a Constitution that provides for the separation of church and state. (Some of those on this group have risked their lives to defend that constitution, we salute you.) IMO the intention of the founding fathers in providing that separation was to provide for the freedom of worship and religion, so that we should all be allowed to openly worship, in public and private, as we please. To use that the same Constitution to ban a tree or a monument to the Ten Commandments goes against the intention of the founding fathers. I am not affended by my neighbors Christmas Tree and share in their cheer during the holiday season. They come over to mooch some matzoh on Passover. We're all cool. No one feels threatened.

And by the way, the thing that Christians, Moslems , and Jews share is Monotheism, and thats big.
