Damn! You and the Pliny. This is one unicorn I have never seen in my area and it always gets high marks from the beer geeks.

I never see it either DED but I viewed Heady Topper as a similar unicorn and had high ratings. Tried it last year and was completely let down, average at best beer imo. So I lost the desire to even seek Pliny out after that.

Iffin' you like I could prolly acquire a couple for you... they do ship to CA, and I can order a 12 pack at a time.

Shaun... I hate IPA's. Hate them. Never found a single one I didn't want to spit out when I tasted it. Then I tried Pliny. I'm not a "variety" guy. My wheelhouse is lagers. Marzen, munich, pilsner... good German beer. I like the occasional dark beer, but it really isn't my thing. No idea why I like the Pliny... it just doesn't taste like a Christmas tree smells. It's more of a citrus note and it just hits the spot. 8% abv and 3 get me good and toasty.

Yea, I was thinking of ordering a 6er but they ONLY ship within the state. Would be happy to send the funds for a few +shipping iffn' it's not too much trouble.

I still think you need to try the hazy NE styles with low IBU. Modern Times make some good ones in your area. Space Ways is one.

Us stout drinkers just don't get much from many of the IPAs the hop heads go far.

8581 - BCBS 2016

The new release coming Black Friday and looks like a couple of promising variants in the mix.

Bourbon County Special #4 Stout 2020 - Limit 1

This Stout is an oatmeal stout variant of our original Bourbon County Stout recipe, also aged in bourbon barrels, that uses crystal oats to add a nutty character, as well as a smooth mouthfeel.

8282 - Pliny The Elder Double IPA from Russian River Brewing 8%

I probably would not have liked this beer a couple of years ago. I'm primarily a heavy stout drinker. I was not a fan of the high IBU IPA styles at the time but have come to appreciate the low IBU and Hazy styles that are now very popular.

This one is on the high side at 100 IBU (international bitterness units) but also has a soft, well rounded flavor of malts that adds some sweetness. At 8% its got the guts to make it balanced. Lots of floral, grapefruit and tropical pineapple aroma and flavor. A bit of pine but not overpowering that stays on the long finish.

I have wanted to try this unicorn beer ever since I got interested in IPAs. Thanks to Shawn for sending these over. It's not the favorite IPA I have tried but I can see why it gets such high marks.

I think Rick and I have similar tastes in beer in that we like the malty and the lower IBU offerings.

I'm glad you liked it, Rick. Also glad I was able to be the one to get it to you.

Pretty much my preference as well.
I just don't drink much more than a couple beers a month any more.
Maybe that will change in 40 pounds.

Huh. Me too. Don’t drink much beer either. There hasn’t been anything I’ve enjoyed above 30 IBU.

My wife and MACS have even more beer in common. She could go the rest of her life drinking only German Oktoberfest beers.
