[quote=MACS]This year has been a dumpster fire for sure. The "dumpster fire 500" would have certainly been appropriate, if we chose to look back. I'm more focused on the promise of next year.

Um....... not to alarm anybody, but didn't Mad Max happen in 2021? Anxious

Well, the last of the true senior staff at work told us tonight that he's gone as of the new year. Wonderful dude, has been there 35 years and nowhere near as jaded as I am at 10. He's not retiring, just finally had enough of the bullchit and is going to work in a clinic with less administration/management digging in your ass. When I started, there were probably 15 people with 20 years in that unit, 10 at 15 years. There was rarely a position open and when there was, you had to be very well qualified to take it. But management changed in 08 and after a couple years of bullchit the oldies all started trickling out, which made room for me in 2010.

Now the majority have about a year or two of experience, I'm the third in senority, behind a 10.5 year part timer and a 20 year part timer. Both of whom will be leaving in the next 5-10 years as they retire.

Pretty bummed.

I understand completely Danm... the captain of a Naval ship makes a yuge difference in morale. If you've got a slave driver who is never happy with anything, it blows chunks. If you've got a guy who wants to be buddies with the crew it blows chunks. You need one who has reasonable expectations and holds firm to them.

Poor leadership is painful. People will only tolerate it for so long.

Morning gents...

Morning.

Trying to work another sweet lease deal with Honda that will put my son in a new 2020 Accord (by trading in his leased 2018 Accord) with him signing a new lease for $50/month less than I am paying now and at least until August 2021, when he graduates.

If he doesn't go on to law school, he'll be working and paying for it himself. If he goes to law school and I am making the car payment, I'll save at least $1,800 if not more on the deal. And, if I can work the deal right and he knows what color he wants, we may not even have to go to the dealership because they are offering free delivery too!

... and I am not even out of my pajamas yet.Think

I'm ok. Except for the headache of having to find a new job in the new year.

I got impacted by downsizing. **** happens. Hoping this is a positive kick in my ass.

Allstate has notoriously been on the low end of the salary and benefit spectrum.

Good afternoon!

It was a great day at the range today, lots of 2" groups with cheap FMJ bullets, a pair of 1" groups and a single raged hole from five 77 gain bullets. Not bad for an AR assembled in my garage, albeit with a very good barrel from Compass Lake Engineering in Florida.

Went for a 4 mile walk this morning... walked home from the park off leash, stayed near me. Got a free "assessment" scheduled for January 12th with a local training facility. They meet with you and your dog, see what your dog knows, where he needs more training and give you a quote.

I've read one book, I'm halfway through another, and I've watched (literally) a hundred videos on training. I can see he is making progress in some areas, but other areas (leash pulling and paying attention to me outside the house) I need some help with. First dog in 20+ years... I'm in the deep end and could probably use a hand.

He's a good, lovable pup. Once he and I are speaking the same language he's gonna be a great pup.

Yes there are.

My only experience with cortisone shots was in both of my heels, many, many years ago. Plantar fasciitis.

The local anesthetic shots were pretty damn painful, especially when the doctor was searching for my heel bone.

But I’m sure there are worse things than that too.

Yeah, my 20-30 minute drive was a solid hour. Roads were bad, but not that bad. Could safely do 20-25 but got stuck doing 5-10 the whole way.

Found out the traction control off switch doesn't shut it off. Just let's it have a little more slip, and doesn't at all disengage stability control. I like some snow drifting, but as soon as I start going sideways you hear the abs pump going and headlights dimming and the traction control light blinking and the computer nannies got my truck straightened out.

Pretty bummed.

Hope it does the trick for you.

I have had a few in the knee with little or no help. Progressed on to the rooster juice injections which also did very little as well. Next the doc said I was near bone on bone and would need a replacement soon.

That was all three years ago and my morning walks and hikes total over 1500 miles each year. Still moving alone at a good clip but just can't run any longer.

Wife complained she couldn't get up the driveway in the snow last night in her car and had to park at the bottom.

I got on my phone at work, bought tires and setup an install appointment at 330 today to get them installed. Hers are bad, it's been slippy slidey in the rain, I'm sure it's horrible in the snow.

She had plans for 330pm and is mad I spent money on tires when hers hold air. Had to cancel the appointment. Rescheduled for the next open slot Monday morning. She doesn't want to do Monday morning. I said Monday afternoon. No. I offered any time Tuesday. No. How about Wednesday afternoon she says. I go back to work Wednesday night, I can't do Wed afternoon.

Cancelled tire order, told her she's gotta deal with it herself. I tried.

Apparently stability control is mandated federally now. Traction control is not. So you can kill the traction control and get tire spin in a straight line, but if you get sideways the computer nannys are required to jump in. The Ram traction control does kick back on automatically if it doesn't like the amount of wheelspin it's seeing too....

Looking around online there's not much for workarounds without throwing a bunch of codes. You CAN disable all in 4wd low and locked under factory settings, but it reengages if you go over 30mph or get too much lateral movement. Can't exactly drive around in 4low and locked nor can you hoon parking lots in lowrange.

There's always the pull the ABS fuse trick which throws codes and isn't exactly a convenient method. I just want to pull into work lot and slide around a bit before I park. I'm not looking to do the whole commute without ABS and stuff.

There's things I like about the new truck, but the amount of things I don't is really piling up.

Good morning! Cloudy and a little warmer than yesterday.

Enjoying layabout time before doing some reorganization of the lower garage shop. Some coffee and listening to Jay Leno's Garage as he drives around in a 1955 Bristol 403, like a Jaguar 3.8 Saloon, only much better.

Mornin' gents.

I, too, have had cortisone shots for plantar fasciitis. Both feet. Took 3 of them in each foot over a couple years to make it stick. Walking on steel decks and concrete all these years... no give. I use moldable inserts now. Arch Molds.

Considering a short trip to Orlando in mid-April.

I’m not alone in trying to guess if that is a good idea with all of the variables in place.
