Jesus... you douche-tards can't spring $350 for a frankin HAND HELD computer?

I'm serious as d!ck cancer... my phone can damn near do everything my laptop can do and it takes better pictures and it goes with me wherever I go. Laptop cost me close to 1k. Phone was $350. And they both have all my frankin' music on them.

Fu--'s sake... I'm old, but some of you jackasses act like my frankin' grandpa... and I'm guessing because both of them died before I was born! But I swear you're like Grandpa frankin' Simpson!

Replaced it with an iPhone SE. More storage, better processor, same exact size and look... $350.

Not sure how you feel about apple products. I got sucked into the apple vortex long ago (iphone 3 or 4?). Anyway... cheap alternative and does all the stuff apple phones do. The 11/12/13 will cost you upwards of $700---and on. The SE has an average camera and may be missing a bell here or a whistle there... but for talk/text/most other stuff we do? Great deal.

I'll tell ya something else that Apple doesn't want you to know. The OLED screen on the majority of their phones are manufactured for them by Samsung. Also - if you crack your iPhone open there is a better then good chance that the majority of the processor chips will also have been made by Samsung. Heck - depending on the model you could even have Samsung cameras on your iPhone. So - basically you're paying a premium price for a phone made from Samsung's parts bin. Just sayin Blink

I know. From 98-03 I worked as a butchers bitch at a meat processing shop that supplied a ton of local restaurants and a few grocery stores along with a retail counter. When I started we were buying quartered cattle from the slaughterhouse. I ran the meat grinder and did the cleanup after the day's cutting was done along with picking up and hooking the quarters as they came in from our suppliers. I was strong as fvck back then. Weighed about 160 lbs and tossed 200-250lb slabs of cow on my shoulder from the truck and onto a hook in the coolers.

The whole chest/brisket area was always binned along with shank/heel meat from the breakdown side and scuttled over to me on the grind side to grind into various grades of ground beef. We had a few regulars that would order briskets/plates and it was $2/lb retail and $1/lb wholesale. I always assumed they were just buying meat to grind.

Beef ribs too, they were an undesired cut that would just get tossed or cut into dog bones sold at scrap price for a buck a pound. But to me a buck a pound seemed like a lot for junk meat. I could get 4 pressed burger patties for a buck.

Wish I knew then what I know now.

Apple doesn't really "make" anything. They design it and the software but the pieces parts and assembly for iPhones are are farmed out. Samsung makes a lot of parts used in an iPhone (screen, battery, chips). At one point, Apple was (is still?) Samsung's biggest customer. I think Sony makes the camera parts.

I give zero fks where the sh-t is made. Or who fkn makes it.

You want a Samsung? Buy one. Apple? Buy one. Google or motorola or whoever the fk else makes phones? BUY ONE!

I don't care. But compare the $350 phones... the iPhone SE is far and away the better deal.

The answer is two fold.
#1 I don’t need a hand held computer.
#2 98.2% of the time, I need a device to make a phone call or send a text.

We aren’t all in the same financial position and have other priorities.

Am probably an idiot to think a person should get at least five years off of a phone. Now that 3G is being eliminated and they will start shutting down some 4G phones as 5G expands, we’re all forced to dig into our pockets for another phone.

I’m also the guy who grey up on furnaces lasting 25 years. Many sites I am researching suggests 15 years is the top end on furnaces being made now. Some say 10-12 years. Fuggers.

Like 8-track, I use my phone for phone stuff and my computer for computer stuff.

Calls, text, sometimes the GPS, banking app, sometimes an inventory app we use at work (if I forget my work phone at home), little bit for looking up things on the web, snapping pictures.

My Moto G Play (cost about $150) suits my needs for a phone just fine. My phone plan is with Verizon, no contract. Unlimited calls, text, 5 GB data/month (unused gets rolled over the the next month), mobile hot spot. The plan costs me about $25/month

I have a work iPhone and a personal iPhone. As a direct result my car warranties expire twice as fast.

Got an iPad and notebook computer also. Chose the right tool for the situation.

Not any more . I have an SE that is about 4-5 years old. New ones will be 5G and sell for $499 starting March 18. They also will be powered by Apple's own in house chips.

Sawed through some oak branches for exercise and some firewood.
Dismantled the rusted out firepit.

On the hook for whipping up BBQ Chicken Nachos tonight.

I think generally water heaters estimated around 10ish years. That's not to say you won't get more out of them. Think they do it to minimize b1tching when it goes to chit

The sad reality is that the days of household appliances lasting 20 yrs is looooong over. Just look at your product's warranty. That will tell you exactly when the manufacturer will tell you to take a hike if their product breaks. The industry standard for most white goods at this point is 10 yrs. After that a manufacturer will categorize the product as end-of-life.

I did it annually on the camper, but never in the house.

Speaking of campers... I'm hoping the gas prices tank the camper market.

And in other expensive pleasure news, wife wants a paver patio off the deck. She even sent me links to the stone tiles she wants. I gotta make some calls to borrow a skidloader, I'm not digging that out by hand. Need to lineup gravel n sand n stuff. I already have some drain tile to go beneath the bed.

I told her to pick out cabinets cause it'll be a year to get em. She said she'd rather have a patio off the deck right now.

Good memory, I did do that to our two tank water heaters. One developed a leak in venting system and was replaced by a tankless unit. The other unit is still working and I'm considering another electrode change out. The tank water heaters are installed in 2002 when we built the house.

Okay, Mother Nature. Take a look at the calendar, please. M-A-R-C-H is what it says. C'mon, now.

Dog woke us up too earlier than normal.
Turned it into a early attack on the stationary bike (7 miles, 31 minutes) and a shower.
Breakfast complete, halfway through the coffee.
Going to play Retired Slug mode today. Tomorrow looks to be busy.

Plugged in dimensions and stuff in Menards design program. 65k lbs of material, $6k in cost plus two semi trucks to ship so probably closer to $8k all in for the paver patio the wife wants.

I tried talking her back into a kitchen, but she's wanted a paver patio since day 1, and we already have a kitchen that works. her words, not mine.

Arranged a skid loader. Need to talk to father in law about materials, maybe I can get the base gravel and leveling sand cheaper by the dumptruck instead of bagged on pallets from Menards. Just gotta do some maths and give him a materials list.

Wifey woke me up in the middle of the night yelling the smoke detector was chirping. I can't hear high pitched sounds so I didn't hear a thing. After looking all around the house I determined there was no smoke and went back to sleep but the wife was going crazy so I got out the ladder and ripped that one off the wall which started the other two alarms to chirping since they are hard wired in. Up the ladder again to disconnect all three of which two are about 12-14 feet up.

This morning I went to Home Depot and bought new ones as the date codes for all three were from the early nineties. Now can I get some rest. Cursing

Mine are still original. Occasionally one will chirp, and it usually happens at inopportune times. Then I get the ladder and change the 9v battery in all of them.

Got a big ol' box of them for just such times.
