67F, feels like 67. High is gonna be 81 but supposed to feel like 85.

MIL’s one week stay ended yesterday so my wife and I are planning on (…finally…) putting away the Christmas decorations. Many hours away from watching the only football game I’m interested in so keeping busy is the best thing.

Any amount of exercise is good. Have a basic target every day, and hit it. If you can, exceed it by a little. You don’t have to get crazy.

Deadeye was a motivational factor in getting me moving daily, after my escape from my corporate desk job. If it wasn’t for the dog, I wouldn’t have been at 1,000 steps a day.

The biggest motivation though was my dad. He retired in his mid 50s and simply stop moving. Sat in a chair, having my mom wait on him. It didn’t take long for him to lose all his muscle mass. Getting into an electric recliner has a terrible downside- he now needs it to get out of the chair.

Nothing but skin and bones, leading to regular falls, broken bones, physical therapists in and and out fit the last 10 to 15 years.

Get up, get moving and keeps moving.

Yep, as they say "move it or lose it". The body is like a machine that will rust iffn' ya don't use it. I have always been just a beer drinker with a running problem. Well, a walking problem since my knee deserted me, but any kind of staying busy beside working the recliner gears works for us older guys.

It's 48 on the way to 70 and a string of 70s all week. After the morning walk I put the last of this years crop of leaves in the can. Each year the big Ash tree in the side yard waits until Christmas to give me a present and it is finally bare. Looks like my tomato plant may have survived the frost but too early to tell for sure as we can still have some chilly storms for a few weeks.

Been doing a lot of reflection over the past year. Lots of life changes going on. Did the going back to school, graduating and moving to a new career. Then my kids on the cusp of being legal adults.

My kids... it seems like not too long ago that I was stay at home dad and doing some consulting work from home. Primary duties was changing diapers, and taking them to play dates, Cub Scouts, dance recitals, soccer, little league baseball and softball.

The calendar says that it was about 12 yrs ago but it seems like more recent than that.

Now my son has a driver's license, a car, a girlfriend, applying to colleges and within 3 months will be a legal adult. My daughter is not far behind. I'm not a helicopter parent but hopefully I've instilled the values, ethics and responsibilities into their minds to be successful moving forward. I think this is every parent's wish.

The older I get, it seems like time speeds up. I may not like it but I can't stop it

Change is inevitable, you raised your children to be independent adults, now it's their turn.

Look forward, it's called success, be a proud Pop.

I envy you, Bucky. While I have my proud poppa moments, the military career made me miss a lot of those moments. Heck, I taught my wife how to drive, but the kid went to a "driving school" because I was deployed when he needed the training. d'oh!

Mornin' dudes.

The bittersweet gets more sweet as it goes (ymmv). Am four years ahead of you, and do miss my son with him being three hours away. When I do see him, the love and joy is amplified.

My wife would say she wished he’d never grow up. Some mentally disabled kids never do. We likely all have friends who are in that situation.

Enjoy the journey, Buck.

Umbrella? ☔️

When we went to Japan in 2017, it rained for the bulk of our trip. We went to Disneyland on our 3rd day so bought a poncho. Wore it all day and then again when we went to Universal Studios in Osaka a few days later. Haven’t used it since…should I send it to you? Think

Uconn women return to playing basketball tomorrow night as they now have the minimum of 7 active scholastic players available. Sunday's postponed game has been rescheduled for January 23.
They are now ranked no. 4 in the country and will be playing 14-1 St. John's in New York which was ranked 24th last week prior to their first loss of the season.

I always sleep the best on my last day of my work week. The day I don't want to sleep well and wish I woke up at noon. But every week I go to bed early thinking I'll wake up early. Today I drank a big glass of water before bed at 9am so I'd wake up to pee. Woke up at 5pm to pee...

Dr appt tomorrow morning for my annual visit so I can get told about how I keep getting fatter and argue with him about taking cholesterol meds.

Called HVAC guy for a new furnace too. Mine's gonna fail again pretty soon. I screwed up when I replaced the blower motor last year and bent the squirrel cage slightly - had a mild vibration for several months that turned into a much more pronounced vibration and now it's a violent shaking and I had to add zip ties to hold the motor in its mount because it would slide side to side and the cage would hit the shroud. Yesterday I went to lube the motor shaft to try to buy some more time and the motor was so hot the oil smoked, so the bearings are cooked and doesn't have much time left. Doesn't spin at rated speed, so if it runs too long the high limit switch trips. It's just time for a new one. When I rebuilt the house he put in a cheap mobile home furnace he sold me cheap - I didn't have money for better stuff so I used a used air conditioner and the mobile home furnace that only had a 5 year warranty.

Getting out there initially is toughest part. Once you are sloshing around, it doesn't really matter any more. Different sounds and smells in the rain as well.

Been pretty religious with the morning dog walks each day... around 6-7k steps to start the day. 50-60 minutes.

As Tank gets older I don't think he'll be as demanding, though. fog
