Mine is set at 69 currently. Long PJ's keep me warm... and a blanket. The recliner is a good place for a cat nap, but if I get real sleepy I just go to bed and close the blinds/curtains and it's dark.

Had a spinach/blueberry/peanut butter protein shake for breakfast. Salmon and a Cesar salad later.

Only the briefest of dog walks and the mailbox will get me outside of the 67 degree confines of our home.

One our load planners called me last week and wanted to know if I wanted a load headed to the upper Michigan peninsula. IIRC the weather out by you is substantially similar. I’m one of the guys who will pretty much go anywhere. Probably the main reason I seem to run more miles than 98.2% of our other drivers. My response was something like are you fu*king serious? Not just no but double Dutch fu*k NO. He said something to the effect of it might make getting premium loads harder in the future. To which I asked who was going to run the Bronx loads I had been running because no one would take them. He’s like nevermind.

Glad we had a meeting of the minds.

Yessir

Every few months he pulls that. When does I remind him that I was looking for a job when I found this one and that fairly confident that since I generally get at least one call a day from a recruiter I won’t have a problem finding if I go looking again.

Last night I enjoyed a frosty 5 degrees and -1 chill in West Memphis, AR. Tonight it’s gonna be a balmy 30 in Amarillo, TX. Looking like I’ll bed down in Brawley, CA tomorrow evening where it’s gonna be a blistering 57.

Mornin Ya'll... heat wave of 24 this morning.. d'oh!

Yesterdays Road trip in the U-Haul was uneventful... 120 miles out of our way in Bum Fugged Sticks of Missouri..Brick wall Brick wall

GPS didn't kick in or lost it on our start? so missed the turn onto US24 into Quincy IL. traveled almost to Macomb before realizing we be like 60+ miles past our route so backtracking... That adventure made the U-Haul folks smile.. at $0.89 a mile... SO my $15 a sheet of OSB just went up and put us a few hours behind on time... So the U-Haul is parked in driveway this morning and the Mrs. and I got a Chuckle at thinking about being the talk of the town, Oh She musta got tired of his **** and tossed him out.. etc etc so on and so forth... Herfing I said hey lets meet at the bar after you get off work and we'll really play this up... you walk in and shove me and go sit at the other end of the bar complaining.. have a few drinks and watch the reactions of everybody... then we can go home together... Hell I may just rent the U-Haul and drive it up to the bar to Keep the rumor alive!!! Beer Beer Herfing

2 wc -7.
If it gets a few degrees warmer, salt may actual start melting the hardpack.

The windchill has been below zero since early Sunday morning.

Put a few chocolates in the mailbox for the carrier today.

Sun is starting to shine. It could all be much worse.

I have a wrapped pvc pipe that is leaking. Need to unwrap and assess the damage. It froze last year as well.

If you haven’t already, open the cupboards and let heat from the furnace get in there. Anywhere you have plumbing, open those doors. Can make the difference between freezing or not.

No advice on leaks. Well, I guess I’d say stop them.

Everything else is good. This is a PVC pipe that runs from an outside faucet to apparently fill the pool. Looks like a poor design to me. It has failed two years in a row even though it is wrapped. Last year it was a geyser. I’ll call the landlord and he will send Jose over to fix it.

HR called again today around 11am.

They wanted to confirm that I was aware the job I interviewed for was day shift.

This is the third phone call I've gotten since submitting the transfer request asking if I knew what I applied for.

So clearly they are fully aware that I've been a longstanding nightshift dude.

But they call me at 11am...

I've not only applied for the job, and noted in the "reason for transfer request" that I want to go to day shift.

I've already interviewed for the job. You'd think that's when I'd get blindsided by the shocking revelation that it's dayshift. No. 11am 7 days after the interview they need to make sure I know it's dayshift.

What big red flags do they have in my employee file? Clearly there's some notation about me not working dayshift. Maybe when I went back on full time in 2015 and had an agreement that I'd be week on week off straight nights. But that was 3 managers ago and HR wasn't involved.

Just to confirm: Do you understand that this is a 1st shift position (a.k.a day shift)? Maybe a blood test turned up with vampire DNA or sumptin'. Are you unable to function when the Sun is up? Are you afraid of garlic? Do you have a reflection in a mirror? Do you drink blood? The answers to these questions need further clarification.

Nope. They want to drag their feet and frsutrate you because they would prefer you to be in your current positions. Many Leaders are leaders in name only. They don't want anything knocking them out of their routine.

Think Idiocracy. You are unscanable. Its messing everything up.

Stay committed to the goal and don't show frustration. Kill em with calm, patient answers to their inane questions. You'll get there.

Interesting.

Not too many get calls from their previous employer to come back.

But were there issues at the previous company that caused you to leave? If so, have they been resolved?

Do you give your current employer a chance to counteroffer?

Like you said, tough one.

Not knowing the details but it sounds like a good option, Drafter.

I'm contemplating doing another job search. The one I landed this past spring isn't turning out to be what I was expecting and the roles and responsibilities are not what was laid out to me when I signed on. It's an OK job. I like parts of it but not pleased with other parts of it.

One key member of the team put in his 2 weeks a couple weeks ago and they told him to just leave the following day. They didn't let him tie up loose ends on the projects he was working on and help those that would be taking the responsibilities for a smooth transition after his departure. There are holes that need to be filled and those that need to fill them are starting at ground zero. Company, in my opinion, didn't handle it well.

I got a better offer they couldn't match when I left them.. a co-worker from then is now the Engineering manager ... now I'm betting my current employer can't match the new offer... gonna be about a 15% increase.. will only have to report to the office 1 or 2 days a week and will work from home the rest of the week... still a tough decision... it's easy to love the upside.
Your task now is to find out what is the downside...and can you live with that?

Another thing to consider is the coworkers you will be working with. Personalities and company environment can make and break a job and working relationships.

Can you also get an idea on how the health insurance works? Deductibles, coinsuance, max out of pocket per year. How much comes out of your paycheck every two weeks. 401k, company match, yada yada yada.

You've already proved you can leave and come back if or when needed.
