I have a friend who travels to Cuba every year, and he told me the place to go is just about anywhere OUT OF HAVANA.
He likes to rent a car and drive out on any of the many remote dirt roads that go into the growing hillsides outside the city, and just keep going until you're about a third tank down on gas. Then look for a little old hut with an old man inside rolling cigars. He says there are thousands of these guys out there.
It helps to know some Spanish, but not entirely necessary. Just buy some cigars, you won't be disappointed.
He said his fondest memory was a very skilled artist who insisted on charging no more than ten cents per stick.
My friend tried to convince him that they were worth more than that but the old man was offended.
It was like, "They're only this much and if you don't like it then leave." So he liked it, very much, and bought about 20 boxes for something like $30 total. The old man was happy! The cigars were unforgettably great.
Not sure what to do about finding OLD CIGARS, but great cigars handmade by OLD MEN are a dime each, apparently.
