There's a maxim in chess that the threat or menace of exchange, or of occupation of some important point, is often more effective than its actual execution. Obama hoped in vain that the threat alone would stop assad from using his chemical weapons. Syria is not a chessboard. Checkmate.
Btw, I saw an interview of him where he said this decision was his biggest regret. He didn't want another prolonged war. He decided to try for airstrike authorization from a Congress he knew wouldn't give it to him instead of engaging militarily.
Couple of things: the 1400 killed in Syria were men women and children.
Comparing that to what's happening at our border makes no sense to me.
And sure, these kids don't have to be separated from their parents but, if I understand it right, only IF the parents say they're not seeking asylum and are willing to be deported. Then they get their kids back ....but for many of them they made the long, seriously dangerous hike because they were desperate. Lots of them die en route.
I know some folks call these illegals 'criminals'. But isn't trying to escape poverty, gang or political oppression for your children worth a shot? Worth a misdemeanor? I think so...
Where's the moral imperative? Your family? US immigration laws?
These aren't hardened criminals that deserve to have their families yanked apart (see what I did there?)
Separating kids from their folks and placing them in a detention-like setting is draconian.
A phone call! All Donald has to do is place a freaking call and it Stops!
This is not who we are, or is it??
