Neither you nor I could truly know what Trump really feels and thinks about this, but I suspect that he intentionally taps into a voting bloc that is xenophobic (and other unloved and unwashed blocs as well)...I know you understand that does not mean that I feel all of his supporters subscribe to that ugly philosophy, but his ability to market and excite that vertical market of buyers to action translates to votes from those that used to stay in Mom's basement, seething at their detachment. And if his forecasters are accurate, those folks tend to reside in specific areas of electoral votes, blah blah blah.
Consider that Obama mobilized minorities whom had historically passed on voting, and rode that wave to victory. Hillary assumed she'd inherit that crowd and didn't even get my vote! Taking folks for granted is poor marketing.
Trump found a different unmined vein of non voters and stirred them into the polling places. Is he racist? Is he xenophobic? Is he a nazi sympathizer? A white supremacist? I dunno. But if they think they can see a shaft of light through a crack in Mom's bulkhead, they will go to the light and vote...and really Anthony, why should he care about the resume or pedigree of the voters who cast votes for him?
When you speak of unloved and unwanted blocs of Trump voters you thank the entire fiasco that has been the 2016 election up until this very day. It started with baskets of deplorables, to smelly unwashed walmart masses, to whatever Democrats want to call [bloc] tomorrow. This is why I have a hard time ever agreeing with a Democrat. They started the tribalism. Trump just perfected it.
Obama was a whirlwind. I will give the man credit every day of the week that he worked his ass off and will even say he earned his presidency. I hate the man for the color of their flag not the color of their skin and all I see is a red flag with a hammer and sickle. Bernie's dream come true.
Trump did indeed pick up some racists and idiots (I refuse to be called a racist but I defend your right to call me an idiot, and will agree with you) but these sects do not define his entire voter base. You might as well accuse the Obama voters (black, white, name a shade) of being just as bad as the (for lack of a better word) minority neo-nazi voter base.
