[quote=MACS]My major was criminal justice, Frank. In order for a punishment to be effective it has to be certain, swift, and severe. (I've said this a few times before). Our justice system is none of those things. Sadly, we treat prisoners better than our populace. Medical care, MH care, recreation, commissary, 3 squares a day, programs, schools, classes... for people who victimize the rest of us. What in the actual f--k do we think that's gonna do?
Prison is supposed to rehabilitate. It punishes as well. I mean, being locked up away from everyone and everything you love IS punishment. Along with all the racial tensions and divisions and fearing for your life everyday is no fun. However, the way prisons are run is the problem and cause for residivism.
Plus the way society treats Ex-Cons is another reason for recidivism. You can't get a job,so what's a person to do but repeat what you know best. X
