My experience of juries, including the one I was foreman of, is that their collective intelligence, wisdom and desire to do the job right is easily in the genius range and beyond- in almost any situation. Good people who take on a serious duty and give all they have to give.
FYI, if this were in Florida, I think he probably could have had a six-person, not 12-person, jury since the death penalty was off the table, so to speak.
